BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY THE CHRONICLE The high school football season is quickly coming to a close. All teams want to end the year on a high note and carry that momentum into the offseason. When the Walkertown Wolfpack faced off against Mt. Airy last week, they did just that with a 20-8 victory. The Granite Bears started the game off very strong with an opening drive that focused on the run game and resulted in a juggling catch in the end zone. After the conversion, Mt. Airy led 8-0 midway through the first quarter. Walkertown looked to answer immedi ately on their first'drive. They drove the ball all the way inside of the 10 yard line of Mt. Airy but a brought it back. Taking a calculated risk, Walkertown head coach, Chris Cannon went for it on fourth down later in the drive. The move paid off as quarterback Owen Renslow threw a touchdown pass to Andre Walker, who ran a beautiful stutter and go route. The deficit was trimmed to two after the failed conver sion. Later in the quarter, Mt. Airy was on the attack again when their quarterback fumbled while scrambling, giving posses sion back to the Wolfpack. Unfortunately for the Granite Bears, their starting quar terback was injured on the play and was unable to return. That play swung the momentum in favor of the Wolfpack for the remainder of the game. Forsyth JV BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY THKfyapNnriR Throughout this entire season, West Forsyth has been a per petual slow starter during the fust half of their games. That m trend continued against Reagan last week. On a chilly /m Thursday evening, the Titans turned up the heat in the second half and won going away 43-20. After stopping Reagan on their opening possession, the Titans took the ball right down the field. Following a fake punt that propelled the drive down inside the five yard line, the Titans came away with a field goal on the drive to take the early lead. The Raiders answered with a touchdown of their own later in the quarter when fresh man running back DJ. Moyer punched it in from six yards out to put Reagan up 7-3. Reagan attempted to catch the Titans off guard by kicking an onside kick but the ball bounced out of bounds setting them up with great field position to start the drive. H >f West Forsyth took full advantage of the field position gift, h I and several plays later, quarterback Shane Jarvis scored the go Xjt ahead touchdown. Looking to answer before the half, Reagan went on the attack but penalties seemed to stall the drive. They overcame their mental mistakes when quarterback Denaje Frasier connected with D J. Parkland hopes to finish season strong against Davie County BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY jTHEdfjftONlCMI The Parkland Mustangs are sitting on a record of 4-5 so far this season. They will face off against the War Eagles of Davie County tonight in an attempt to end the season with a .500 record. Davie County holds a record of 2-6 and look to salvage their season with a win. The Mustangs are hoping to bounce back from a devastating defeat last week against North Davidson by the score of 42 6. Parkland head coach Brendan Atwater said North Davidson came out and played sound football against his team. He said the North Davidson running backs ran hard and his linebackers were not prepared for them. Davie County took on area juggernaut Mt. Tabor last week. They were soundly defeated 52-7 in the contest. Besides last week's loss to the Spartans and a loss ear lier this season to Dudley of Greensboro, the War Eagles have been competitive in their games. They have just not had enough in the end to get over the hump. See Preview on B2 ffcMabjrltaMfeykiaaqr The Mustang player attempts to locate the ball as Parkland practices recovering onside kicks.
