Tate says he didn't expect to be a high seed and sitting at #12 the Yellowjackets have a steep hill to climb this year. Last year the Yellowjackets won their opening round game before falling to Reynolds in a tough matchup. Tate said they definitely want to exceed where they finished last year and if things work out well they may be able to shock some teams this year. Lexington opened the season with a loss to Wneatmore High out of Trinity, N.C. They fell by nine points but Tate was pleased with the effort his team gave. Big man Myles Crosby will be patrolling the paint for the Yellowjackets. He is a returning player from last season and Tate says he will look for him to protect the basket and rebound at a high rate. Tate says he is looking for guard Ty'reik McNeair to step up because of his toughness and anility to shoot from the outside. Alex Holt is expected to be used in the paint as well, with his large frame. Like so many other teams in the tournament, Lexington is an uptem po/fast break team. Tate says hope fully if his team can get out and run and not overthink things, it may counteract the inexperience his team is faced with. With eight freshman and only three upperclassmen on the roster Tate says there will be an adjust ment period for many of his players but eventually they will be fine. "If we work hard and we end up above .500 it will be a good year with these young guys," said Tate. "Once these young guys get accus tomed to playing on the high school level they will be good to go."
