After finishing 2015 with winless season,
Walkertown aims for comeback
BY TIMOTHY RAMSEY
Last season the Wolfpack finished the
year at 0-15. Head Coach Charles Thomas
says this season they will have a reversal of
fortune and start winning ball games.
Unfortunately they have started the season
0-4 but Thomas is optimistic because of the
growth his team has showed.
The Wolfpack seemed well on their way
to the first victory of the year when they
took on South Stokes last week. The game
was closely contested throughout but the
Wolfpack could not hold onto the late lead
and lost it in overtime 49-45.
"We are beginning to learn how to com
pete at the level it takes to compete at and
we are getting closer to earning the first vic
tory of the season " said Thomas. "We just
have to remember what we are supposed to
do on the court and minimize the mistakes."
Thomas says he looks for his team to
"really compete and go hard" during the
Lash-Chronicle tournament. He thinks his
young team can really shock themselves if
they give the maximum effort the tourna
ment requires to advance.
Dante Daniels is a good rebounder who
defends the ball well. Jonte Lewis is a
returning player from last season and
Thomas looks for him to provide much
needed leadership. Thomas says rebuilding
a program from the ground up is a tough
task but he is up for the challenge.
"Learning to compete and actually get
ting some victories in the win column is a
big thing," Thomas says of his yearly goals
"We are rebuilding the entire program and
getting a couple of wins will be big."
When asked what will winning the
Lash-Chronicle tournament mean to him
and his team Thomas said, "That would be
big not only for us as a team and a coaching
staff but that would be big for the school
and the community because the basketball
program has not won a tournament yet.
That would be a big thing for the communi
ty as a whole."
