The deacons will meet Sunday afternoon to plan our budget for the coming year. Our budget has increased several thousand dollars since the first budget for Spring Branch was made. We are looking for a high aim and aiming over that. Frank Hinson. ■ now stationed at Cherry Point, since his return from Korea has made the grade and now is a Sgt. Congratulations Frank and what’s that we hear about a trip to S. C.? We’d like to see Jean and Joan ourselves. Miss Helen Tart of Benson and the Meadow School area visited Betty Sue Phillips over the week end. ' Yep! Earl Grey got home even if it was for Just a couple of days and it doesn’t give him time to see everyone. Pvt. Jackson is stationed in Ft. Knox, Ky., and is taking his Henry-J back with him. He has been gone some 14 weeks and he talks like it seems good to be home. All aboard for the Training Un ion Social to be held at Mingo School gy.n Saturday night. Every one is looking for a real big time with lots oh interesting games. Don't let it slip your mind instead come along and have fun. Mrs. W. P. Draghon’s brother was visiting Sunday from Cherryville and Antioch Church. He is su perintendent of the Sunday School there. Mr. Wacaster was at church with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson Dragh on. The other visitor with them was Mrs. Johnson Draughon broth er-in-law James Draughon and son, Jim. It really sounds as though work on the parsonage is getting under way and if the men. turn out on the set days and work maybe we'll soon see a pretty new house. By this time everyone has seen Vivian Tart’s pretty diamond we think. But we take this opportunity to say that Pfc. Ray Adams is a lucky guy and also to wish them happiness. Shirley M. Strickland visited Mis ses Lois and Lola Belle Lee for the week-end. The Jr. G. A. and R. A. will have their study course at the church Saturday afternoon and the teacher will be Mrs. Freddy Jackson from Mt. Elam Church. All of you be there because you're sure to enjoy it. With all these Christmas lights and carols being sung weather does seem a little out of place, and a picnic lunch last Sunday sounded a little out of place, but the weath er was favorable and the Int. G. A. had a nice picnic, at the church and then practiced for their contata. We'd call it a church “hangover” and it's Just like those G. A.’s to .do something like that. We hope they had a good practice and we’re also looking for a good program Sunday week. ' The Y. W. A. will n*et with Miss Mary Rachel Jackson and Miss Viv ian Tart on South Wilson Ave. on Tuesday night and the G. A. girls will have their Christmas meeting with them on Wednesday night. Those seeing "Ice Capade” last week were: Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Williford. Mary' Jackson, Vivian Tart, Rachel Jackson, Shirley Halrr, Louise Halrr, Mac Naylor Halrr, THE DAILY RECORD, DUNN, N. C. New And Improved Protector IsDevised By HARMAN W.'NICHOLS United Press Staff Correspondent) WASHINGTON —«l Boxers and football players have been get ting hurt in the mouth for a long time and the navy has done some thing about it. A couple of navy doctors have perfected a tooth and gum protect or, a resilient plastic interdental splint. It looks and feels like rubber and is made to fit individual sets of molars and incisors. A demonstra tion was held ait the District of Columbia boxing commission office by the inventors, Commander J. V. Niiranean and. Commander .H. J. Towle Jr. As Niiranean looks at it, the mouthpiece now in use is "as an cient and inflective as a square wheel.” The commander went on from there. The present mouthpiece used by boxers and some football play ers can come out with a bounce when it comes in contact with a right hook or a straight' arm. It cuts down on breathing and not on ly that, a man can’t get a word out sidewise. BRIGHT S. LOUIS, Mo. OPI Drake University halfback Johnny Bright, whose jaw was broken in a slug ging which touched off a bitter Missouri Valley Conference contro versy, has been named to the All- Conference squad for the third straight year. Commissioner Artie Eilers yes terday announced the league hon ors which were dominated by Tul sa University, winner of the con ference crown for the second year in a row. Bright, the nation’s leading gain er on the "ground, was the only Drake player picked. His broken jaw, which he received in the Ok lahoma A&M game in October, ul timately led' to Drake’s withdrawal from the MVC and Bradley Uni versity’s announcement It would follow suit at the end of the aca demic year. Drake withdrew because of the conference’s failure to take action after Bright, q Negro, was slugged by Aggie guard Wilbanks Smith on an early play of the game which the Aggies won. Smith said the slugging was unintentional. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hairr. Every one agrees that it was prettier than words can tell and the skating was excellent. Lt.iand Mrs. Charlie Bishop and children were visiting from S. C., last week-end and we failed to men tion it. Lt. Bishop is stationed at Ft Jackson and his wife is living in Columbia. Mrs. Leo Godwin’s mother is spending'a ~while with Mrs. God win and was at churph Sunday. Don’t'forget to be at church Sun day and bring a little dough along to help pay for a Christmas bag for each child in Sunday school. The kiddies will be looking forward to it and most of the big children will sorta want to be little again. Flora Gilbert was home Sunday and had a boy friend with her. We wonder how Mrs. Gilbert is enjoy ing her trip to the College Con ference. Misses Thelma and Catherine Beasley have been sick .but are up again. Mrs. A. F. Lee, Sr., is back up and getting along very well. Miss Delpha Strickland is still un able to be out. “M” night was held by the B. T. U. at Stedman Monday night. We haven't heard from the meeting but we’re sure Chaplain Saddler was excellent. “With Christmas just around the comer and so many things to go to and so much to be done we hope that everyqne will go to prayer meeting and preaching every Sun day, until next time so-long. In that year, they found that among ths 4,000 boys who played college football, 733 teeth either were chipped or knocked out. Harvey Miller, chairman of the boxing commission, and boxing coach at the University of Mary land, was interested in the inven tion. He is a former Marine and has done a bit of fighting himself.
