If you want to spend an hour of “sho nuff’’ pleasure, follow the crowd to the Legion! The Evangelist at Clinton Chap el church preached Sunday night from the text “Ensure your sins will find you out. Brother,- we choir members know that eur sins have found us out and we were few in number to hear what you had to tell us about it. Some of us would be better off if we were not connected with the church, because we would not be trying to keep good men who are sinners from joining the church and doing good; .but as it is we are stumbling blocks. Smith I The many friends of Mrs. Rog ers are glad to learn that she is improving nicely from a severe burn on the arm. Mrs. R. L. Carpenter of &09 Baldwin Ave. spent the week end in Lincolnton. On her return home she was accompanied by Mrs. J. A. Carpenter and Mrs. Charity Grier, the latter a sister in law of Mrs. Sam Pemberton of W. Hill street. Mrs. Mary Williams of E. Liber ty St. has returned from Greens boro, where she accompanied her daughter Miss Shirley Williams, who entered the Woman’s^College- They motored. SURPRISE BIRTHDAY PARTY On last Friday night Mrs, Maria Houston was given g surprise birthday party by her husband Mr. H. Houston, Mrs. Maggie Clinton, Rev. R. L. Jones and only a few of their neighbors were pres ent. It was indeed a happy sur prise on her birthday, The years we will not mention- only the birthday. MYERS CHAPEL A. M. E.ZION CHURCH NEWS. The Rev. R. H. Stitt, pastor of Myers Memorial Chapel church deserves much credit t'or the good work that he has accomplished within the past seven months. He came here and found a $2,500 debt and has paid the said debt down to $1,500, and above all,can give an account of every penny that has jbeen raised and paid out- Good for them. The com raunity is proud of Rev. Stitt and has proven it by the help that has been rendered to the young man. Messrs Louie Torrence, Frank and Henry Poe helped to com plete the cement work on the church without any charge, Rev, Stitt as a young man has (lone a great work. All hopes fer this church were lost until thru divine arrangements Rev. Stitt took charge and saved the church which all its members ai’e proud of May he live long to do good for God and Zion. In our 6th grade we have organ ized a club knywn as “The Better English Club.’’ The different officers a r e: Harvey Massey, Pres., Miss Naomi Stewart, Sec'y, Miss Helen Alexander, Councellor Miss Marjorie Worthy, Treas.' Westbury preached an excellent sermoni from Rom 10:16. i COMMUNITY BIBLE CLASS The Community Bible Class met at the home of Mrs. Bell on Baxter St. Friday night, Sept, 26. The class was opened with sing ing and prayer offered by Mrs. Nancy Woodard. After another song the minutes lof the last meet ing were read, afterwhich the class was turned over to the teach er who explained .the lesson very interestingly.
