Johnson Smith * Lrolden Bulls Host / - Virginia Union Here Saturday Night At 8 The Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University, fresh from a opening victory agaisnt University of Maryland, Eastern Shore will host Virginia Union Univer sity here Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. Last week Bull coach Eddie McGirt inserted junior running back Mike Gibson in for the injured Bruce Dukes Gibson responded to the task by piling up over 200 total offensive yards. Duke should return to the Smith lineup this week, so the Smith backf. :ld should be ready. The offensive line of the Bulls, led by All-CIAA tackle Billy Corbett, should get a good test from Virginia Union. The Panthers defense suffered the loss of, cor'-" nerback Bob Jones and All CIAA, All NAIA tackle Irving Strickland. v The Panther defensive front four averages 6’3” and 241 pounds. The ends are Horace Williams (6-6, 245) and Larry Reed (6-1,200). Donald Tate (6-4, 300 ) and Richard Macon (6-3, 230) will man the tackle positions. The Golden Bull interior offensive line composed on tackles Corbett and George Hill, guards Dan Whyte and Rick Yeaden, and center Linwood Spindle must push the big Panthers early if they want to establish a ground game. On offense the Panthers feature UNC of the con ference’s premier runners in halfback Lofell Williams. Williams will be joined in the backfield by sprinter Larry Roberts and quarterback Tim Keeles. The Smith defense was _sporadice in last week's win against Maryland but showed glimpses of brilliance throughout the second half. The return of Arthur Hardy at linebacker has strengthened Bulls linebacking crew. The front defensive wall of the Bulls led by • senior cot captain Tom Johnson did a good job of containing the ground game of Maryland in the second half of the game. If the Bulls can score early the defense is not expected to have as much pressure on them as it did in the opener. Action starts at 8 p.m. __ CIAA STANDINGS ‘ Conf.
