Lem Long Jr. To Head Elks Lem Long, Jr. was elected President of the North Carolina State Association of Elks at the organization’s Annual Convention held in Raleigh, N.C. May 4th through May 8th. He was installed on May 6th at the convention which was attended by approximately 500 Elks. The Charlotte businessman is the owner of Long’s Mor i tuary, Manager of the AME Zion Publication House, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Church Extension Depart ment of the AME Zion Church. He has also been named in Who’s Who in North Carolina for the year 1974. Mr. Long is married to the former Miss Eddie Vaughn and the couple have one child, Lem Long III. Feahr as the city’s new Public Transit Specialist Beginning his duties May 16, Feafir wiTT be responsible for studying Charlotte’s public transit needs in order to develop a system of dependable, safe and attractive bus tran sportation which will fit into a workable mass transit program for the city. A senior transit specialist with Wilbur Smith and Associates since 1970, Rodger Feahr is already familiar with some of the transit needs of Charlotte. He has served as an assistant project director studying transit operations, finance and conducting ser vice and technical studies in Charlotte as well as Columbia, S.C. He has alwo worked with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area Transit Authority in conducting a bus aim i an luui umainju aiuu^ and participated in special studies for the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation and such cities as Roanoke, Va.„ Springfield, Mass., Syracuse, N.Y., and San Antonio, Texas. Prior to joining Wilbur Smith and Associates, Feahr served 20 years in bus operations as a manager with National City Lines, Inc. in Illinois. Charlotte's new Public Transit Specialist will be working under the Tran sportation Planning Coor dinator, conducting bus route studies, examining route alignments, analyzing transfer points, and making other specialized studies concerning the city’s bus system operation. and providing advice on how to operate and maintain a public transit system which will provide 3ependlble service'‘ST a reasonable cost.
