Holman's record is 16-2-1. , ■ At the same time three Livingstone players were named to the All-CIAA team. Andrew Cooney, a IXO-pound sophomore from Hialeah. Kla. was named the team's kicking specialist. while juniors Samuel Branch, from Detroit. Mich, and Johnny Miller, from Ellerbe. N. C. were named defensive end and defensive tackle, respectively. • ..Livingstone posted its best record in the school's history this season, winning nine games and losing two. Sur prisingly one defensive player was named to the all-confer ence team. The Livingstone defense led the nation, among small colleges, in both total defense and rushing defense. Johnny "Smiley" .Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Miller of Kllerbe, also re ceived honorable mention on the Greensboro Daily News All-Collegiate Team. Miller was a leader on the Living stone College Fighting Bears' defense that limited eleven opponents to 53 yards rushing and 67.5 yards passing. In the Fayetteville State University game. Johnny had 15 un assisted tackles, blocked a field goal attempt, and re covered a fumble that led to the winning touchdow n. Coach Holman said that "Miller is the best football player that I have ever coached." C.) basketball team. ..Coach Otis Hawkins re cruited 6-9 forward-center Walt Holland from a commun ity college at Baltimore, Maryland and in the season opener for the Broncos he I promptly dumped in a game high 22 points and eleven re bounds. .
