Zion Church, after a month long contest, honored and reward ed its first Annual Mother of the Year last Sunday night during a program in the lower level of the 600-seat-capacity church at 2722 Bancroft Str eet. ..Mrs. Thelma Hammer. . crowned by Mrs. Julia Cure ton. Chairman of the Budget Committee, was the first reci pient of the plaque that will bear her name and all other winners in future years. .. Miss Cheryl McCullough. and Mrs. Willie While. .."It was a very successful effort." said church pastor Keverend Jerry T. White. " They gave us twice as much as we asked for", he added, say ing."it is the beginning of an annual event." .."We exceeded our goal by 100 percent." said Iteverend While now in his second year as pastor of Mother Walls adding, "the money has been earmarked for the annual "M"1""** Ihf rnnnwlinn . .Λ Fellowship Dinner followed the crowning cere monies which included nolo performances by Mrs. Thelma Hammer. Mrs. Annie Mae Hrown. Mr. Lincoln Quick, and a trio composed of Cyn thia McCullough. Ardis While, and Kobin Medley. Mr. Worth Williams. Mini ster of Music, accompanied the musical selections of the performers and was Masters of Ceremonies. Approximately 165 of the church's :tlK) members were in attendance at the program and dinner. ..
