Three Lovely Youne Ladies Vie For Local JCSU Alumni Chanter Honor* t^visier Post Staff Writer The annual membership drive of Johnson C. Smith University Alumni's Charlotte Chapter is well under way This year finds three young ladies vying for the title of Miss Charlotte Chapter: San dra Cathcart, Mable Cunning ham and Vanessa Worsham The chapter sponsors this drive yearly to increase mem bership in its organization and as its only fund raising event. 1 hrough this effort supportive funds are given to Johnson C. Smith administrators to aid in the development of the institu tion. Last year a total of $5,300 was contributed to the school as a result of the Charlotte chapte-s continuous work. The three contestants each have a team of supporters who. too. are soliciting mem bership in the Charlotte-Meck lenburg area. The winner will be announced on Wednesday night Nov. 2 and honored throughout the Homecoming festivities. A new segment of the fund raising efforts of thi^ cadre of Smith supporters is an Alumni Ball to be held at the Civic Center and feature the Dyna mic Magmticants of Gastonia. This event marks the begin ning of a function that will be held yearly the Friday before Homecoming. A door prize of hotel accommodations and tic kets to the CIAA tournament or $160 cash will be awarded. Tickets for the Friday, No vember 4 function can be purchased for $5 from any of the contestants or members of their supportive team. Sandra B. Cathcart, a 1972 rublic Meetings To Discuss Local Housing Patterns A series of public meetings to discuss housing patterns in local neighborhoods will be held by the Charlotte-Meck lenburg Community Relations Committee (CRC) during the next four weeks. The theme of the series will be "What's Happening With Housing in Your Neighborhood.” A meet ing will be held in each of Charlotte's seven election dis tricts. The purpose of the meetings is to promote equal opportuni ty in housing and to support the efforts of groups which are seeking and succeeding in developing neighborhoods without rapid turnover and “white flight." CRC will conduct the series with the support of local neigh borhood groups. Each meet ing will provide information on population trends, housing patterns, and the distribution of public housing and other publicly assisted low income housing. The program will feature brief presentations by repre sentatives of the Charlotte Board of Realtors, local finan cial institutions, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Planning Com mission, the Community De velopment Department of City government, and residents of integrated neighborhoods^^ Impossible9 Not so' Let Suburban Propane show you how you can SAVE ENERGY DOL LARS with «i Direct Vent gas heater that puts Ih#1 heat only where it s needed only when it s ngeded Direct Vent qas heaters install m any outside watt need no flue or chimney consume no room air are completely automatic You SAVF by keepmq the roomis) you live to warm and comfortable while you let fb«* rest of your home keep its coot Mam* senv- > You bet ind it can SAVt YOU OOII ARS TOO* for complete derails no obtiqation Service Aey**eFe-" Ank nhoh! our fimh/t t Pflffnirnt I'hm 2317 THRIFT RI). 375-1721 SALES OFFICE OPEN EVENINGS ■ V APPOINTMENT ^ _/ VANESSA WORSHAM ...1976 graduate SAINDKA cathcart ** 1979 ararliiQtn .uoliLE CUNNLNGHA.M ...Charlotte native graduate of Johnson C.
