Nothing but good things can
be said about the Bar-Kays'
newest album, called FLY
ING HIGH ON YOUR LOVE,
on Mercury Records.
All of side two is good...It
begins with "Let's Have Some
Fun," a very funky dance cut.
Also on Side one..."You Ca
n't Ruii Away," has the sound
of Earth, Wind and Fire, while
"Standing On The Outside"
sounds like the Commodores.
Despite all these different
sounds...that album flows
well. It's worth buying.

If you've caught the Ohio
Players in concert and liked
the group that opened the
show before them, you'll soon
have the chance to bring their
music home.
The group...Faze-?...has
just released their first album.
They call it RIDING HIGH,
it's on the Ohio Players SHE
(Serving Human Equality)
label.
Album highlights are TOE
JAM, YOU AND I (Belong
Together), and GET SOME
BOOTY.

After a moderately success
ful DISCO CHAMPS LP, the
Trammps have bounced back
with another new release, sim
ply enUUed TRAMMPS III.
It's on Atlantic.
They got some help from
Fred Wesley and the Homey
Homes in putting this toge
ther. Last year's Disco Group
of the year in Billboard Maga
zine... this group really has put
the "D" in Disco.
Side one begins with a song
remembering July 13th in
New York City..."The Night
The Lights Went Out."
There are at least three
other songs which should go
over well with disco music
fans.
Spanish Disco? Why not...
says Santa Esmeralda. That's
what he gives us in DON'T
LET ME BE MISUNDER
U I VA/U.
It's a sound that leaves you
wondering whether to cha-cha
or hustle, but the sound is rich.
Esmeralda and his band
members are all excellent
musicians. The title cut is
getting a lot of national atten
tion. It's about the best the
album offers.

EROTIC SOUL , whatever
that is...is what's new from
the Larry Page Orchestra.
I
Jim Berry /
The title is somewhat mis
leading. The music doesn/t
sound erotic or make you Utel
erotic...it's disco. j
The album does have some
nice instrumental moments,
particularly on "I'm Hooked
on You" and "Do It In Slow
Motion".
It's on London Records.

Far out is the only way to
describe the new album by the
Intergalactic Touring Band,
which isn't really a band,
but more like an orchestra.
Nearly one hundred musi
cians and recording artists got
together on this album which
puts us aboard a spaceship as
it visits cosmic space colonies.
This would have been a good
soundtrack for Star Wars.
You'll see the album on Pass
port Records.

Jazz Pick of the Week...
MELdDIES by Jan Hammer
on CBS Records.
Once it overcomes some
weak vocals, this album gets
rolling instrumentally. Ham
mers' electric keyboard work
is the glue which holds every
thing together.

Boney M...a group like the
Silver Convention that's very
popular in Europe...has cut a
an album for distribution he
re.
The name of it is LOVE FOR
SALE on Atlantic. You may
have heard a couple of the
albums songs. "Ma Baker"
and the title cut have been
played at discos here.

"Our Love" is the preview
song (and a good one) from
Natalie Cole on Capitol Re
cords.
It's preceding her soon-to-be
released album called
THANKFUL.
Natalie continues to develop
and mature as a singer. She
puts a lot of soul into the song.

"SHOW
Channel 42 To Air
"Parent Effectiveness" Series
"Children, like most people,
speak in codes; and we use
Active Listening Feedback to
help decode their messages,"
instructor Jeff Holden ex
plains to a dramatized parent
ing class in "Tuning fa,"
Episode Seven of PARENT
EFFECTIVENESS, which
airs over PBS, Thursday, Nov
ember 17 at 8:30 p.m. on
Channel 42.
A way of helping a child who
is having a problem, Active
Listening Feedback involves
the parent reflecting to the
child what he understands the
child is saying and feeling.
Jeff explains the benefits of
this process. As the child gets
a chance to air his feelings, he
may feel relieved. Active Lis
tening Feedback give the child
a chance to sort out what his
problem really is and to work
toward its solution. Finally,
the parent helps the child to
take responsibility for his own
problem.
"Active Listening Feedback
is something that comes natu
rally," Jeff cautions. "You've
got to work at it and practice
to be any good." An extended
classroom exercise, in which
Jeff plays the part of a belea
guered businessman waiting
in an airport to catch a plane,
gives the class members a
chance to try out their fledg
ling Active Listening skills.
The instructor lists the con
ditions necessary for this skill
to work. The child must be
experiencing a problem which
is not a problem for the
parent. The parent should not
attempt it when he or she is in
a rush. The parent must set
aside his or her need to be a
problem solver.
