They are a band who appeal to a wide range of record-buy ers internationally. Young sters usually buy their singles because of their commercial appeal, whereas the average recôrd buyer appreciates the ir articulate lyrics, fine ar rangements and individual sound They are a band who have successfully moved into the album field, with LP hits on both sides of the Atlantic. This fivo mamhai· Kon/4 composed of members of the English background, produce a sound that is so unique that even the media cannot pigeon hole and categorize them. They have taken their own musical path and their status cannot be neatly defined. Al though they are Top 20 regu lars, they are not a pot band. And although they are in constant demand for appea rances at colleges and univer sities all across the United States, they are not a "heavy" band or a rock band. This group's admirable skilled career began in 1970 when the Apple Records re leased their reggae version of John Lennon's "Give Peace A try). From that time Hot Chocolate have emerged with a track record that is long enough to exhaust any disco grapher, with nearly a dozen international hit singles spre ad over the years both for themselves and those tunes penned for others. This band's well-timed col lection that recapitulates the best of its successes called "10 GREATEST HITS,'* has for its introductory track (in its unedited 4:28 length) "SO YOU WIN AGAIN," written by Rod Argent (of Zombies Argent renown). This current charted single is the only one mai moi unocoiate haven't written themselves since "Give Peace A Chance." The tunes on "10 GREAT EST HITS" range with sounds aggregated over the last seve ral years, with "RUMOURS," an early, typically controver sial side heretofore unreleas ed in this country by Hot Chocolate in any form, thus being the stimulative ground work. The song brings to mind the beginnings of Hot Choco late's association with Mickie Most, head of RAK Records and their producer starting the year after "Give Peace A Chance." Under the guardianship of Most, Hot Chocolate has been able to rack up an impressive string of hit singles for them selves, and, as writers, for artists as diverse as Mary Hopkins, Peter Noone, Stores, April Wine and Suzi Quatro. Errol Brown, lead singer, main songwriter and spokes man for the group, and former member Tony Wilson (who, between tnem write almost all of Hot Chocolate's repertoire) have been "Love Is Life," "You'll Always Be A Friend," "Rumours," "Bet Yer Life 1 Do," "I Believe In Love," and "Cheriè Baby."
