The amazing Billy Cob ham
has returned with an album
sure to please his fans. He
calls it "Magic" ..on CBS Re
cords.
On it, Billy does the things
that have earned him recogni
tion as the World's best drum
mer.

Johnny Guitar Watson is
looking to make it three gold
albums in a row with his latest
FUNK BEYOND THE CALL
OF DUTY LP.
This one may not catch on
the way the others did because
it lacks a real catchy tune...
but it contains some good
sound.
Johnny is still singing about
money and hard times on "It's
A Damn Shame" and "It's
About the Dollar Bill." The
album is on DJM Records.
η
A sleeper among the latest
crop of albums might be Man
child's POWER AND LOVE...
on United Artists Records.
They have the potential for
becoming one of the most
popular soul groups...Their
music is good...the singing
could improve.
Bright spots on the album
are "Takin' It to the Streets"
and "(I Want to Feel Your)
Power and Love."

How do you describe the
sound of Esther Phillips? Is
it blues? Is it soul? Is it
contemporary?
Whatever it is...to many
music fans...the sound IS one
thing...GOOD. Esther is at her
best on YOU'VE COME A
LONG WAY, BABY, her new
est album on Mercury Re
cords.
Album highlights are "Som
ewhere Along The Way"...a
tune originally done by Dinah
Washington years ago...and
"Love Addict."

MUSIC MAXIMUS is the
latest offering from the Main
Ingredient on RCA Records.
Unfortunately...it seems
that more effort went into the
album cover than the album.
The cover features the group
dressed in elaborate Roman
tunics...but on the inside, the
re are only mediocre songs.
Hopefully this group will
bounce back behind their very
talented lead singer.
0
The Dynamic Superiors...a
group Motown expected big
things from at one time...have
yet to reproduce the success of
their debut cut, "Shoe Shoe
Shine."
From the sound of their
newest GIVE AND TAKE al
bum..it'll be longer yet.
Group members wrote most
of the albums' songs...maybe
that's part of the problem.

ON THE DISCO SCENE
...Something new from Osi
bisa a group with an African
name and sound. Two fast
moving cuts called "Keep on
Trying" and the "Coffee
Song" are available on one
12-inch discodtsc.

Jim Berry
Casablanca Records seems
determined to be the number
one disco lable in the country.
They're releasing records like
never before.
New on record shelves this
week on the label are Donna
Summer's newest disco hits,
both on album and long-play
ing 45s..'.and a new cut by
Morris Jefferson that ought to
become a bic disco hit...he
calls it "Spank Your Blank
Blank."

JAZZ OUTLOOK
Tom Scott...a man whose
wild saxophone play earned
him a lot of musical recogni
tion a few years ago...has
toned his sound down a little...
and the result is a very nice
easy listening album called
BLOW IT OUT.
Album highlights are "Got
cha (The Theme From Star
sky and Hutch), "Dream La
dy," and "1 Wanna Be."
Scott's change of pace is a
pleasant surprise... the album
is on ODE Records
0
A double album recorded in
Switzerland...featuring some
of the top jazz artists on
Atlantic...will soon be avail
able in town.
This album is for those who
like only pure jazz...it features
Herbie Mann and Fire Island,
and Ray Baretto, to name a
few.
It's entitled, "Montreaux
Summit."
0
The sweet-singing, slow
singing Moments have com
piled their best to put on their
"Greatest Hits" album.
It doesn't contain all of the
best cuts this group has
made...but it has collectors
items' "Love On A Two-Way
Street," and "Sexy Mama."
0
Patti Austin...with the help
of some noted musicians...has
put together a very mellow
album she calls HAVANA
CANDY on CTI Records.
"We're in Love" and the
title tune are the highlights...
but the entire album flows
well. Among those who pro
vide musical accompaniment
is Michael Breaker of the
Brecker Brothers.
0
CUTTING THE CHORD is
the name of the new album by
the Mother Freedom Band. It
features a nice jam called
"Love Will Stay In Your Corn
er." The best thing about the
album is it's cover...it's rated
X for little girls under 15. ,
