Trichoiogy Corner Mr. Charles R.B. QUESTION: Why do some Beauticians say Barbers are not suppos ed to do perms? ANSWER: Most are ig norant of their own his tory; others.are afraid of competition. The first perm known as process cream was invented and sold by a Barber. Pro cessing was only done in Barber Shops, and mostly for men. Women without air condition ing, working in hot kit chens, factories ect. had problems keeping their hair pressed, so they started going to Barber ShoDS to set their hair chemically straighten ed. The inventor of the process cream noticed this and introduced a milder cream called a relaxer for women. In moet northern states, most relaxers are still given in Barber Shops for men and women. Most Barbers who work in perms and chemicals today are highly trained and skilled people called Trichologist. The south traditionally a little slow is catching up fast.
