MP*» ■·' I Howard Lee ...NRCD Secretary NCHRC To Hear Howard Lee Citizens from all across Nor th Carolina, including Meck lenburg County, are expected to attend the Annual Recogni tion Banquet and Workshops February 10-11 in Raleigh sponsored by the North Caro lina Human Relations Council. Benjamin Kootsher of Char lotte said he is expecting a good turnout for the event, the Jvst to be held in several years. The event will begin Friday, February 10 with a luncheon featuring the keynote address by Secretary of Natural Re sources and Community Deve lopment Howard Lee. Work shops will be held Friday afternoon and Saturday morn ing with a general session clate/l The Recognition Banquet is set for 6:15 p.m. Saturday with Governor Jim Hunt present ing the address. All events will be held at the Jane S. McKim moa Center at North Carolina State University. Five awards will be presen ted by the Council for outstan ding service in the field of human relations and special honor will be given to the late Dr. R. Irving Boone, former member of the Council, to the late Dr. Charlie B. Sessom, former Chairman, Durham Human Relations Commis sion, and to Dr. John R. Larkins, Special Assistant to Governor Hunt. Livingstone Receives Sears Roebuck Grant SALISBURY - Eugene My ers, a representative of the Sears-Roebuck Foundation, presented a check to Dr. F. George Shipman. The North Carolina colleges and universities are among „ almost 1,000 private accredit I ed two and four year institu tions across the country which are sharing in $1,500,000 in Sears Foundation funds for the 1977-78 academic year. Funds may be used unrestric tedly as the colleges and uni versities deem necessary. Grants totalling more than $48,000 00 will be distributed to 39 privately supported col leges and universities in North Carolina this week by the Sears - Roebuck Foundation. In the Salisbury area, Ca tawba College and Living stone College will receive grants totaling $2,526.00. In addition to its unrestric ted grant program, the Sears Roebuck Foundation each year .conducts a variety of special-purpose programs in elementary, secondary, high er, and continuing education.
