Martin Sr. FROM THE DESK I A Census Bureau report reveals that between March 1975 and March 1977, 147,000 blacks moved out of the North east with more than two-thirds of them -104,000 - moved to the South. During the same per iod, black migration out of the South was considerably less than in previous comparative periods. + + + Charlotte voters may be asked through a referendum in September to approve a $47 - million bond issue to under write part of a $59-million passenger terminal and air cargo complex at Douglas Municipal. The bond issue would be paid off from airport revenues over the next 25 years. The other $12-million would be paid with revenues from air cargo lease and federal grants. + + + The Department of Labor reports that unemployment declined to 6.1 percent in February. This represent the fourth consecutive month that thejobless rate has fallen, and more significantly, the lowest unemployment level in 3.5 years. Equally significant is the fact that the decline reflects job gains for blacks whose unem ployment declined to 11.8 per cent, down from 12.7 percent in January. The data, the Department of Labor belie ves, indicated that goverame nt efforts to find more jobs for minori ties might be paying off. + + + In an apparent effort to ease international pressure and to appease South Africa's black community, the government released from prison on Fri day, March 10 newspaper edi tor Percy Qoboza and nine other black leaders. The 10 leaders had been held without charges since a so-called mas sive security crackdown last October 19. + + + Small businesses are not ex Imwmwmmimmmmmmm pec ted to do as well as big businesses under President Carter’s tax plan, according to the Senate Small Business Committee. Its analysis con cludes the firms with taxable income exceeding $100 million a year will gain 60 percent of the benefits of the President’s tax cut. Methodist Home To Offer Spring Classes The Methodist Home Park and Recreation Center will hold several spring classes for the general public. , , A Senior Citizens Physical f itness Class will meet on Friday mornings from 10-12 ucguuung March 3rd. The cost is free. A ladies Exercise claw will meet Thursday nights from 6-8:30 p.m. The cost is $3.25. A children’s Gymnastics class will meet on Monday afternoons from 4:30-5:15 for ages 6-8 and from 5:15-6p.m for ages 9-13. The class will begin March 6th and run March, April, and Mav. The cost is $10 per month. Ceramics and Oil Painting are taught on a continuing basis, Oil Painting meets on Thursday mornings from 9-12. Granny had hoped that Bugs would be the Easter fill-in, but Bugs, the movie star that be is, is tied up with production ■ commitments. Concerned, the rabbit does offer her his help in finding someone else. Daffy Duck is the most eager applicant, but despite his fervent attempts and Granny’s desperate worry that the Easter eggs will not be delivered, she can't quite see him in the role.
