Franklin, officiating at his New Bethel Church in Detroit, Mich., according to the latest issue of Jet maga zine. Return Public Library Books Thirteen may be a lucky number if it leads to the return of library books to - public schools in Charlotte-Mecklen burg. All CMS library books are labeled on page 13 in the bottom margin. In an effort to have “long lost” books returned, Char lotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte-Mecklenburg public Libraries and the Charlotte Mecklenburg PTA Council are cooperating in “Operation Book Return” during National Library Week, April 2-8. No fine will be levied on “long lost" books. An estimated 16.500 books are lost each year from public school media centers, accor ding to Mary Arden Harris, Media Center Program Spe cialist. In some cases, students have transferred to new schools and don’t realize they can turn in books at the new school and that they will be sent to the appropriate school, she says. Students who have been graduated and are away at college may have library books at home. Former stu dents or their parents are asked to return such books to any public school or branch of the public library. Books will be returned to the proper place. PTA volunteers will help sort books in order to send to the appropiate school. The return of public school and Mbrary books will benefit the whole community by sa ving tax dollars for replacing books and by making the books available to patrons, explains Mrs. Harris.
