I j The newest fad catching the eye of sports fans nowadays is the jewelry our baseball, bas ketball and tennis stars are wearing around their necks. Some feature necklaces , some religious medallions, some their names embedded in diamonds and some featu ring the “Muntu,” the new national black symbol. No matter what, this “jock jewel ry is the thing today. The critics were mixed a bout “Timbuktu”, but the box office looks okay with a $300, 000 advance and theatregoers, especially Blacks, flocking to see Eartha Kitt, Melba Moore, Gilbert Price, and Ira Haw kins who now has a featured role. Melba, spokesperson for ITT’s “Big Blue Marble” drew a rave from one critic. “And Allah be kind,” he im plored. "Give that vibrant little chick Melba Moore a classy new musical comedy and let her shine forevermore, or what passes for such in Broadway’s sands of time.” Playwright Richard Wes ley’s latest, “The Mighty Gents” is now trying out in Washington, the first drama by a black Playwright to play the Kennedy Center. It’s due to hit Broadway at the Ambassador Theatre on A mil 13. In the leading role is Ionian ndicwuuu, last. seen in “Streamers”. Harewood can also be seen in the new Charl ton Heston movie, “Gray La dy Down.” the busy Wesley not onlv is writing a series script for “Roots: The next 100 Years.” He also has a TV pilot, “Cool Breeze’ that Alan King’s King-Hitzig Produc tions is producing for CBS, Thomas “Satch” "Sanders, coach of the Boston Celtics received a plaque from the Holcombe Rucker Community League during halftime at the Garden recently during the Knicks-Rockets game “in ap preciation for his interest, dedication and involvement in the Rucker Program over the years.” Earlier some Harlem youngsters got the thrill of their lives playing in the Gar den as the Rucker-ITT Me morial Winter League’s play offs got off with the Boys of Yesteryear Jrouncing Mini sink, 47-35.
