Rangers
To Tackle
Orioles
By Dianne Simpson
Post Staff Writer
The mighty Morris Field
Hangers, the 1977 regular sea
son champions with a record
of 25-2, will meet in combat
with the forceful 1977 playoff
champions Mecklenburg Ori
oles, holders of a 24-3 record a
year ago This spectacular
teeth-grinding, fist-clinching
powerhouse event will be held
at the Harding High School
athletic field on Sunday, Mar
ch 26. at 3 p.m.
“What a game this will be ! ”
exclaimed Rangers' coach
Herman Thomas. "Although
this game is only an exhibi
tion. it will be just curiously
interesting to see what the
outcotne will be."
Thomas commented that
the Mecklenburg Orioles, for
mally called “Town and Coun
try" is under the new manag
ement of Minnie Mendozo,
who formerly played for the
old Charlotte Hornets and the
Minnesota Twins of the Amer
ican baseball League.
When asked which team he
thinks will prove more prom
ising on Sunday. Thomas rep
lied, "Well naturally the Ran
gers. However, I must admit
that both teams are very good.
The Orioles consists mainly of
former professional league
performers, and we have four
members who have been dra
fted in the professional lea
gues.So what the spectators
will see on Sunday is not just
an amateur's game, but one
that is professional all
around."
Also playing in this Easter
Sunday's game for the Morris
Field Rangers will be 26-year
old Lafayette Currence, who
once pitched for the Milwau
kee Brewers.
Keep your out-of-town
friends informed on what’s
happening in Charlotte by
sending them a copy of the
Charlotte Post each week. The
cost is only S*0 per year.
