Hank Aaron Will Host Shoney’s
Big Boy Basketball Classic Here

Homerun king Hank Aaron
is honorary host for Shoney’s
Big Boy Classic, a post-season
basketball tournament plan
ned for 1 p.m., Saturday, April
1, at Charlotte Coliseum.
Half the proceeds from the
event will benefit Cystic Fi
brosis Foundation, according
to foundation director Cas
sandra Wagner. Although the
game will be televised by
American Sports Network,
Wagner hopes the crowd will
be large in order that her
group receive financial sup
port for its work. Tickets are
on sale at *6, $5 and $4, she
said.

The WBTV Sports Special,
“Diamonds Are Not For
ever,” which won the National
Association of Television Pro
gram Executives (NATPE)
“Iris” Award for Best Pro
gram in the Sports category
for stations in markets other
than the top 25 on March 4th of
this year, will be rebroadcast
on Tuesday, April 4 at 8 on
WBTV, Channel 3.
In the special, WBTV Sports
Reporter Bob Taylor, who had
been in minor league baseball
player, was invited to return,
10 years later, to play with
the Charlotte Orioles, and see
what has happened to baseball
during that time.
“Diamonds Are Not For
ever” was written and pro
duced by Bob Taylor, Mark
McKeen directed, and John
Baynard was primary photo
grapher and editor.

Kentucky stars, James Lee
and Mike Phillips, will set the
pace for the Southeast region.

cers for the event. About 30
stations are expected to carry
the game, said Wagner.
