ground for a new Barnes Chapel church,
built by the late E D Bariit.s. a well-known
building contractor, ulm specialized in build
ing churches in Nuith Carolina, Virginia,
District of Columbia and Maryland The
church was founded and built in 1SHW and
dedicated by Bishop J.W llood. It was one of
jhe lead inn churches in the small farminc and
railroad town, with a 1,500 population. Time,
migration and death took their toll. Alexander
Barnes, son of the founder, shown in the
foreground, holding the shovel, with the Rev.

Church, Durham, N.C., another church built
by his father, is spearheading the rehabilita
tion. He has dunated enough material to put
the building under roof. Other persons, in the
picture, are members of the Durham church
who make an annual pilgrimage to take part
in a memorial to the founder.
