QUESTION : Mr. Charles, why is it so hard to reach you per sonally or get an ap pointment with you? ANSWER: It should be easy, because we have a full-time recep tionist to take all ap pointments. It would be very unfair to a person who has an appointment and the stylist starts to wait on people who don't have an appointment. One rule is be patient. We will take the same time and care with you that we've taking with the person ahead of you. If it's a conference, leave name and num ber. Generally the call is returned within 24 hours. The Law required that all pupils have 3 DPT, 3 Oral Polio, 1 Red Measles given on or after the first birthday and 1 Rubella. It is very im portant for parents to un derstand that proof of these immunizations will be re quired on the first day of school in the fall. Those children who cannot show proot οι the required im munizations will not be allowed to attend school until proof is shown The health records of all pupils enrolled in school last year have been checked and parents of those lacking immuniza tions were notified repeat edly. The final notice to parents of pupils who would not meet the new legal immunization re quirements was sent home with the last report cards and will not be repeated. Some pupils in elemen tary and junior high school were suspended last year because they failed to meet even minimal immuniza tion requirements. There are still 1.000 pupils in elementarv and junior high schools who lack one or more of the immunizations required in the fall These pupils will face suspension when they attempt to enroll on the first day of school along with the 4.000 senior high school pupils who ei ther lack immunizations or have not pre&ented a vac cination record. Because of diminished resources, the Health De partment will not be able to provide additional emer gency immunization clinics in September as was done last year when suspensions in elementary and junior high schools took place. This will mean that child ren seeking their immuni zations from the Health Department may have to wait a long time for ap pointments in regular im munization clinics in the fall. Unless they can get their shots from their pri vate doctor, they will re main suspended for several days or weeks Parents are thus urged to act early if they plan to use the free I immunization clinics at tne Health Department. At this moment it is easy to get a clinic appointment, but they will become more dif ficult to get as the summer progresses. For an appoint ment call 392-4121, Ext. 218.
