Hidden Valley Restaurant Dinner Highlights Reunion By Teresa Burns Post Staff Writer ..Members of the Barnes family came from as far away as Buffalo, N.Y. to participate in their yearly reunion. Prayer, eating, talks, looking at old photos, dancing and then more eating were the main events when the sixty members convened. On Saturday, August 9, they came from Lancaster, S.C., Winston-Salem, and Buffalo, N.Y. It was the idea of Juanita Barnes Montgomery three years • ago to start the reunions. This year’s events were , coordinated by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lee Barnes Sr., Percell Barnes Jr. and his wife Elizabeth. One of the highlights of the reunion was a dinner at Hidden Valley Restaurant _j t u.. d:ii could be felt in the air. The family traces their roots back to the late Adam and Bessie Barnes from Lancaster, S.C. They had eight children: Pernell Barnes, Percell Barnes (deceased), Rosetta Barnes, Johnnie Barnes, Bernice Barnes Crawford, Lucille Barnes Duncan, Bleasel Barnes, and Jua nita Barnes Montgomery. As generations passed, the family grew and today there are about 60. mem bers and just about every one appeared at the re union. Pernell Barnes, Rc setta Barnes, Gregory and Carrie Barnes, Greg and Jeff Barnes, Johnnie and Francis Barnes Sr., and Johnnie Barnes Jr., Chy stal Barnes, Renee Lind say, Lisa Lindsay, Tomika Stitt and Brenden Stitt. Bernice Crawford, John and Patricia Myers and children, Blake and Rose mary Lynn, Michael, Denise Crawford, Anton ette, Lucille Duncan, Tim my Duncan, Theodore and Juanita Montgomery and grandchildren, Eddie Montgomery, Theodore Montnomerv Jr., Mr. and Mrs Michael Montgomery and children , Elizabeth Barnes, Richard and Ma mie Barnes, Richard Barnes Jr., Derek Barnes, Bobby and Betty Clark, Percell Barnes Jr and Eleanor Barnes, Sonya Barnes, Tony Martin, Trina Barnes, Angela Johnson and Dana Jonson. The next reunion will be held one year from now in Buffalo. As the family members remin r isced and talked of the (present and future plans, family devotion and love Z Judy Holloway Participates In f jr Youth Seminar By Anthony Hayes • Post Staff Writer . .Judy Elaine Holloway, of , Charlotte, was among ap proximately 120 high school students from throughout North Carolina ' who particiapted in the Seventh Annual Youth Se ll minar on Law, Leadership and Government. The se minar took place in Chapel Hill on July 27 - August 1. \ The seminar, which was co-sponsored by the North Carolina Institute of Go vernment in Chapel Hill and the State Youth Coun cil (a component of the N.C. Department of Ad ministration's Youth In volvement Office), was de t signed to give young people opportunities to learn more about government and how to develop their own lead ership skills. The participants attend ed a number of workshops I and .Danel discussions on f inetiro onH vnnth riohk news media, community organizing and govern ment. At the end of the week-long session, the stu dents received certificates for their participation during a luncheon featur ing an address by Howard Lee, secretary of the De partment of Natural Re sources and Community Development. During the week, the stu dents heard other state officials including Attorney General Rufus Edmisten; Elizabeth Koontx, assist ant superintendent of the Department of Public In struction; Gary Pearce, the Governor's press se cretary; Rep. Patricia Hunt; and District Court Judge William Jones of i Charlotte. Holloway, a recent grad uate from Coulwood Junior ; High School, was clarinet ist in the South Central All-State Clinic Band, and was voted as the outstand ing clarinetist of 1979-BO She was also a member of the Executive Student Council, the band, chorus, ; orchestra and volleyball team. A member of the Student Advisory Committee, Hol loway received certificates of merit for services to the school in math, French, volleyball, and the orches tra.
