Church News Brie fs Matthews Murkland Begins Week-Long Celebration Here Monday Night ny if res a Burns Post Staff Writer There is something spe cial about a church over 100 years old. As for Matthews Murkland United Presby terian Church, the aura of spiritualism no doubt has prevailed throughout the decades. It seems as if all the hopes, faith and love of former members somehow still exist within the Matthews-Murkland family. Beginning Novem ber 3, not only will late members be remembered but members far away and members, who for other reasons can’t attend ser vices, will be remembered as well. For those lucky enough to attend the Homecoming services, an entire week of praise in the Lord's name can be experienced. Monday, November 3, Rev. Lloyd Morris and The Grier Heights United Pres byterian Church congrega tion will be the guests. Tuesday, the Young Adult Choir will perform with Rev. Isiah Phinisee and the New Hampton United Presbyterian Church congregation as guests. ThfiMen’s Council will be in aq)rge of the program Wednesday night. Rev. John I. Jackson and the Clinton Tabernacle AME Zion Church congregation have been invited. The Revelears, and Rev. Kirkpatrick will be present for the Thursday night Homecoming celebration. Friday, The Vocal Choir will perform and Rev. C. L. Next week beginning Sun day, November 2, and last tng until Friday, November 7, revival services will in spire to do the same. Rev. R. L. Ecford and Red Oak AME Zion Church in Edgemoor, S.C., will be the guest. The evangelist for the revival will be George E. Battle, pastor of Geth semane AME Zion Church. Services begin each night at 7:30 p.m. Bible study session will start at 6:30 p.m. nightly. The theme of this year's revival is “Come Holy Spirit.” The public is also invited to come to Walls Memorial AME Zion Curch Memorial AME Zion Church to experience this once a year revival. MOORE S SANCTUARY For those of you who have a sweet tooth, Moore’s Sanctuary AME Zion CHurch, located at 4100 Morris Field Dr., will prepare all sorts of good tasting goodies, for a Bake Sale following the 11 a m. service Sunday, November 2. un me iouowing aunaay, November 9. a General Rally will be held to raise money for the church. Also during this time, four ladies of the church will be installed as deaconess. They are Sister Pruitt, Sis ter Feeley, Sister Feeley, and Sister Watts. OLIVE Homecoming is the spe cial time of year for churches, and Mt". Olive Baptist Church was no ex ception. The 11 a m. Home coming service was uplift ed with songs from the Hymn Choir, the Senior Choir and the Gospel Choir. Rev. Max B. Mcllwain, pastor of Mt. Olive deliver ed the first of a two-part sermon entitled “There Was A Man Sent From God.’’ The second part of the message was heard at the 1:30 p.m. service. With over 350 members and family friends present, feelings of joy could not be ignored. The comradship between members is just as strong today as it was in the church's beginning 112 years ago Mt. Olive Baptist was founded by ex-slave Rev Alex Anderson. Six genera tions of that family have worked through the years, aiding the progress of the church. Mt.
