Richard Pryor’s Lighting Matches Again!

Pryor, on a wave of his super
popularity, has just released one of
the most irresponsible movies of
all time.
------ I’ve beena Pryor fan for a long
timd. I caff stand behind him when
he says it is time to bury the word
“nigger” for good...that it’s no
longer a fair jest between blacks.
He’s had a lot of messages and he’s
not been afraid to stand-up and sell
them.
This time he's sold out. “Some
King Of Hero” is a slap in the face
to anyone who nas ever worked his
way through college, paid his dues
for a good job and created some
thing solid for himself and his
family. White audiences that see

stereotyping.
nero stars out as a stunningly
sensitive tragi-comedy about a
Vietnam ROW who gets ripped off
by the Army and comes home to
find his wife unfaithful and his
mom recovering from a stroke. It's
heavy stuff for comedy, but the
laughs are subtle and superb.
The brilliant first half, in fact, is
so well done that it must be blamed
for selling the conclusion's anti
social message. Pryor goes for
revenge and the movie rarely gets
_funny again. His pathos, as he

barely holds the plot together
Finally, he makes a score that
sticks.
What Pryor advertises loud and
clear to his young fans is that it's
OK to rip off the establishment if
you’ve been dealt a bum hand. He
goes further and suggests one will
get away with it! This is a vicious
message to dump on a Reagan

I was sharing a school matinee of
an oversize puppet show by the
Theatre Sans Fil at the John F.

story in the company of an all
children audience is refreshing;
kids laugh in different places.
Adults have been sneaking into the
evening performances, I hear.

Is “Billboard Magazine," the 88
year-old grande dame of the music
industry, in trouble? The trade
paper recently fired dozens of
employees in Los Angeles, New
York and Nashville and perma
nently closed the Chicago office.
Included in the sweep were high
ranking editorial staffers. Compe
titors “Record World" and “Cash
box" are rumored to be in worse
shape._
