On Wednesday, April 7, Mrs. Frankie Powell of Greensboro sub mitted to interview by the United States Justice Department and the FBI in connection with the No vember 3, 1979 Greensboro Massacre. Mrs. Powell was shot in the attack by Klansmen and Nazis on an anti-Klan demonstra tion where Jim Waller, Michael and Bill Sampson were killed. She was eight months pregnant at the time. No assault charges were brought by Guilford prosecutors in con nection with the shooting of Mrs. Powell or eight others injured. Six Klansmen and American Nazis were acquitted of murder charges in November, 1980. Newspaper accounts and trial testimony im plicated Klansmen-police inform ant Edward Dawson in organizing and leading the Klan motor caravan and full-time Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agent Bernard Butkovich in the Nazi planning of the attack. Rivera, the council’s executive director, said the agreement is the first in a series of planned agreements within the interagency council to improve coordination of federal minority business develop ment programs.
