Seven trumpet ' blasts announce judgments; seven woes are ; pronounced; seven persons are mentioned; ; and seven vials of plagues are poured out, ; softening up the power of the Antichrist. ; The subject in this chapter is still the fall of • Babylon. It has been revealed thus far according to f ^John’s-visiens, that-Christ has been 4irect ; ing earth’s judgments from His throne in Heaven, but now as we begiji to studv.of i this lesson, Christ leaves Heaven and des j cends to earth for the purpbse of completing :■ His work of judgment before He establishes :■ His Millenial Kingdom. : . In the first ten verses of chapter. 19, there : is the expression of great joy and rejoicing : in heaven: the praises of the saints in vss. j 1-6, and the marriage of the Lamb in vss. . 7-10. This all sets the stage for the account of . the coming to earth of the King of kings and • the Lord of lords. ; Lesson Explained Last Sunday’s lesson was taken from the section dealing with the seven seal visions, and showed God’s people triumphant even though persecuted. Now in this week’s lesson, John presents Christ, the Righteous Judge whose authority governs and appraises everything. The Judgment scene on earth will be a time when all creatures shall be subject to Christ. But before His reign He will subdue any enemy and opposing force. At this time Daniel’s seventh week will have just about run its course. The conflict of Armageddon will be near. John sees “heaven opened for Christ’s second coming.” He is seen as the Rider called “Faithful and True.” He is riding a white horse, symbolic of His holiness. He will judge with dignity, going forth to wage war against forces of evil. He will then gather the nations together for judgment (Matt. 25:31-46). Christ’s second coming will occur after the rapture of the church and after the great tribulation (vs. 11). John describes the eyes of Jesus’ as a “flame of fire,” and on His head were many crowns. And He had a name that only He knew (vs. : 12). Christ wore a robe stained with blood, ; generally believed-the blood of His : enemies. His name was the “Word of God.” : The “vesture” probably is a reminder that ; the Lamb had been slain (vs. 12). On His : thigh was written “King of Kings and Lord . of Lords.” The armies of heaven will be dressed in white linen robes, symbolic of righteous ness, and a readiness to go to war for Christ (vss. 13-14). The first ten verses of Revelation, chapter 20, tell about the thousand year reign of Christ known as the Millenium. Verses 15-16 describe Christas the Victor. These verses fulfill the great Messianic prophecy in Isaiah 11:4, which reads, “And He shall smite the earth with the rod of His mouth (tongue), and with the breath of His lips shall He slay the wicked.” John saw Christ sitting upon the Great White Throne, and the dead appeared before Him. Small and great, the unsaved from all ages were seen standing there. The books of judgment, a record of their deeds were opened for their judgment. The future judgment will not occur at the same time as the Judgment seat of Christ. The future Millenium will come between the two. Those who will appear at the Great White Throne will be the unregenerate. And all who will appear at the Judgment seat of Christ will be the redeemed. Since the unsaved will not be recorded in the book of life, through God’s righteous ness they will be cast in the lake of fire to suffer the second death. Note that the books of judgment are plural, but the book of life is singular because it contains only the names, exclud ing deeds: The blood of Christ blots out the sins of believers. (Act 3:19; I Tim. 5:24). Closing Summary When Jesus Christ comes again, it will be in dreadful majesty and holy power. He will come as a King mightier than any other. The world will stand before Him to be judged from opened books. All will be judged righteously, accordingly. -- Mrs lanf.jp Washing*/™ ...Reading instructor director _ ' At A may James Mrs. Janice Washingt on h Woman’s Day Speaker Mrs. Janice Hutto Wash ington has been chosen as the speaker for Women’s Day at the Amay James Presbyterian Church, lo cated on 2400 W Blvd., on May 30 at 11 a.m. Mrs. Washington receiv ed her B.A. degree in English from Voorhees College, Denmark, S.C., where she was born and raised.
