J—iiue Alexander Family Holds Fifth Annual Reunion By Lori Grier Post Staff Writer The family of the late Elihue and Ethel Alexan der of Charlotte held their fifth Annual Family Re union—recently_on the estate of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Bradford in St Pauls, N.C. This was a tto-ee-city event. On Friday night the family began to arrive at the Ramada Inn in Lumberton, N.C. The family gathered at the Bradford's estate on Satur day morning and they all walked over to the St. Pauls High School for a Alt ball game. There are still aches and pains from that game suffered by family members. Although "Edna *i»»nnHn. pj^hm n superb game, she lost. One fete accomplished by Ms-. Alexander was that she struck out Dr. Bradford three times. Charles Alex ander almost killed himself in a collision with Bradford at third base. Saturday night there was the family banquet at the _Holiday Inn in Fayette ville, JSI.U. inc banquet was presided over by Travis Alexander with Linda Raf fety reading the highlights of the family. Sunday morning the family gather ed on the lawn of the Bradfords, under tents, for the family worship' ser vices. Rev. Albert Paul Brinson of Atlanta, Ga., who was ordained by the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was the guest speaker. Verna Bradford gave the welcome address and the scripture was read by her mother, Mrs. Evelyn Alexander Nor —man. Music was furnished by Carolyn Wyatt on the console with her twin daughters Terri Williams Family Reunites In Baltimore, Maryland Each year the Williams family reunites and one member is honored. This year the second oldest of the_ family^ Alberta Williams, received the great honor and valleys of love from over 200 mem bers who converged recent ly Members united at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge in Baltimore, Md., with family members coming from New York, «aryland, Washington, C., North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and New Jersey. The weekend was kicked off by a Poolside “ Remi niscence Saturday after noon. The family gathered for dinner that evening and enjoyed a disco Saturday night. Sunday began with a buf fet breakfast. All members came together at 11 a.m. to worship at Howard John son’s with Rev. Bagley. A banquet was held Sunday where a war®Tor ouBStahff ing work for the reunion were presented. There was a picture taking session and Alberta Williams was given her honors. Mrs. Williams is the fourth child of Jim and Vinnie Wil liams. McCullough Graduates Specialist E4 Nelson McCullough of Charlotte, graduated Saturday, July 24 from the North Carolina National Guard Basic Non Commissioned Officers Course conducted by the North Carolina Military Academy, Fort Bragg. The two-week course be gan July 10 and was taught by North Carolina National Guard and U.S. Army Re serve instructors. Today Marie Williams, bom in 1907, is the oldest living member of the Wil liams family. The roots of the Williams family has been Trace3 ~5aek to "Jim and Vinnie Williams who were blessed with six children. Jim Williams was bom in 1871 and died in 1931. He was the son of Effe Williams and Emily John son. Jim was married to Vinne Cornell (1880-1947). She was the daughter of Nedand Alice Wylie Cornell. Jim and Vinnie were blessed with the following six children: Willie Wil 'Hams-1898 1979; Andrew— Williams-1902-1963; Marie W. Washington-1907-); Alberta Williams (1910-); Israel Williams (1913-); and Joe David Williams (1920-). The reunion and pro gram committee consisted of members of the family: John W. Love-Sr-r chair man of Charlotte; Joseph L: Williams, Co-Chairman of Baltimore; Essie W. Blunt also of Baltimore; Harriet G. Love and Mary W. Love of Charlotte; Lincy W. Mobley of Balti more; Harold Williams and Carolyn Williams of Lan caster, S.C. A few other Charlotte family members who ' at tended the reunion includ ed Jewel Love, Robin Johnson, Angus Williams, Mannie Love Jr., Toni Love, Melessia Love, Eli zabeth Ware, Theodoshi Williams, Teddy Williams, Samuel Williams and Samone Williams. Family members real ized that God has blessed them again to share their love and closeness of fa mily. They will continue to pray that this unity pre vails. and Jerri who also assist ed vocally. At the close of the ser vice, with all holding hands, Dr. Bradford ren dered a tnnrhinp version nf “May The Good LordBless, ~ and Keep Voir" Lunch followed which consisted of turkey, ham, roast beef, spinach, lasag na, string beans with al monds, potato salad, home made cake and the best punch on the Atlantic Coast. Sunday evening the fa mily was treated to an old fashioned “fish fry” with Travis Alexander as the chef. Travis uses the dish wash pot for cooking the most delicious fish this side of the Mississippi. The family socialized —arnnnd the piano at the Bradford s home late Sun William Harmon, who is finishing his requirements at Kansas State towards his Ph D., could not attend but called the family. Gladys Alexander Massey who was in Canada was also unable to attend but wished the family well. The families departed to their various homes early on Monday. Alan Harmon, Washington, D.C.; Brenda Zandres and children, Star and Zhar of Washington, D.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rafferty of Upper Marbqro, Mad., and their four children Gina, Eric, Jerrpain and Angela; Mr. and Mrs. Travis Alex ander and daughters, Pat and Debbie of Charlotfe. Also from Charlotte were Mrs. Ethel Kirkland, Michael and Lois Cassell with their two children, Eric and Chris, Elain Bow man with her twins, Ste phen and Shaun; Darryl and Sadie Cassell with their two children, D. J. and Shametra; Vernon and Laura Alexander with their daughter. Sherry; Steve and Fifi Cassell with their son, Eric; Rev. Albert Paul Brison and his two child ren, Paul and Lisa of At lanta, Ga.; and Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fulghum, Mayor of St. Pauls, N.C. along with friends of Dr-. Bradford.
