Church News Briefs Rev. Charles Fairchild -will again flrnr-P the pulpit of Second Calvary Baptist Church during the Annual Revival Services August 9-13 The church, pastored by Rev Dr. Lemar Foster and located at 114 Nelson Ave., will open its doors each night at 7:30 p.m. Rev Fairchild, known as a dynamic young speaker and for his singing and preaching abilities, has led many revivals. He also leads the devotional pro gram for the E. J. Jones Evangelistic Service in connection with the Nation al Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Gifted.with a beautiful voice Rev. Fairchild has been featured on many current popular gospel choir albums. Rev. Fairchild is pastor of Greater Faith Baptist Church located in North Chicago, 111. Greater Faith Baptist Church has an aggressive congregation with over 400 members being added to the church rolls in the past two years. The member ship now totals over 1,300. STATE BAPTIST CONGRESS -TheState Baptist Sunday School Congress and the State Baptist Training Union Congress (both auxiliaries to the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc.) will hold a three-day meeting at First Baptist Church-West, 1801 Oaklawn Ave., Tues day through Thursday, August 10-12. Rev. Dr. James B. Humphrey is host pastor. As many as 100 delegates are expected to report and as many as 400 more may attend. There are 1,700 Baptist churches in North Carolina associated with the GBSC of NC with over 350,000 members. The theme of the Con gress will be “Teaching and Growing Our Church es.” Rev. Harold S. Gidds, pastor of Mayfield Me morial Baptist Church, will address this message at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 10. There will be various functions during the gathering including skits; workshops; classes; music; and question and answer periods. A senior Oratorical Contest will be held Thursday at 9:45 a.m. The Annual Sermon will be given Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. by Rev. John D. At Ebenezer she sang on the Gospel Choir and was active on the Building Fund Program. Deborah Williams was presented a certificate of recognition and a gift during tne morning wor ship service in apprecia tion for and recognition of her devotion and untiring service to her church.
