"For the small amount of money expended by the state on these units, they are among the most valu able services in our com munities,” Knox said. “Having served as a mem ber of the NC Medical Emergency Services Com mission, I learned much about these services. I have never seen more de dicated, professional, public-spirited citizens in our communities.” Because of his dose re lationship with people in rescue services, Knox said he intended to support rescue squads in the fol lowing manner: -Seek recognition of res cue squad workers as Public Safety Officers, thus tiuftftirig 'them to be covered by the PSO $50,000 death benefit the same as firemen and police officers. -Explore means for tbe revision of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program provision of SO-SO matching funds for the purchase of ambulances. “North Carolina needs a program that provides for the replacement of ambu lances before the vehicle is totally depreciated,’’ he said. -Seek just compensation by the state for rescue squads that provide servic es to state facilities. Knox said he would consider se veral methods that might be used to reimburse res cue squads and be would look to the North Carolina Rescue Squads Association for recommendations on this matter. -Explore the feasibility of establishing a rescue squad workers’ relief fund similar to that already in effect for Firemen. "I will never forget the 15 months I spent as an am bulance attendant earning money to go to college,” Knox noted. —• Advertise In mu I In Memory Of The Man And His Dream I Clayton Perry I Special Marketing I Director LaPointe Chevrolet I ; nt-iiii , 'i. . •<■■■ < • I Now is the time that furniture prices drop to the lowest of the seasonI It’s your chance to save cold cash while you bring warmth and beauty into your home! { }; ' ' Tt- ' > ‘ • . . .
