Prophet * Column ■ “A Lost Singer” i usually ask if you are saved. In this message I’m asking you if you are a lost sinner. What does it mean to be a lost sinner? Do you know what it means to be a lost sinner? “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Lk. 19:10). “But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel,” (Mt. 10:8). “I will seek that ' which was lost,” (Ex. 34:16). “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost,” (II Cor. 4:3). There are two types of lost sinners, those who are lost and don’t know It, • and those who are lost and know it under the illumin ation of the Holy Spirit. I’m ’ dealing with the sinner who,* is lost and knows it under the illumination of the Holy Spirit. Practically 100 per cent of our church mem bers, Including preachers, are lost and don’t know it. I’m not being critical when I say that, just stating a fact. The reason you dis agree with that truth Is you have never seen your self as S lost sinner under Holy Spirit conviction. “And you hath be quick ened, who were dead in trespasses and sins," (Eph. 2:11). The word “quickened!’ here in the Scripture means awak ened, or made alive. When the Holy Spirit awakens a sinner, He shows the sinner he is lost, does not know Christ. R is the most start ling thing in a religious person’s life to be awrfc ened to the fact he is lost, never been saved. Every sinner, apart from the awakening of the Holy add sins and held captive by Satan. Whan onoe you •re awakened to your lost condition, you see and face the awful fact that you are a child of the Devil, (Jn. 8:44). There is no such thing as being awakened to the fact you are a child of God. When, the Holy £*rit •wakens you to the fact you are lost. He brings you into Ifisacbool and teaches you, not in the seminaries There are certain things He J- M. Utile ' First In series teaches you that you will face fair and square under His illumination. I’m going to set forth some things every sinner sees and ac knowledges under Holy Spirit conviction. You may not come to see and know them in the order I’m going to set forth, but you will experience them before you are saved. And if you haven’t experienced them, you are not saved. “Nevertheless I teD you the truth; it is expedient for you that I go away. For if I go not away, the Comforter will not come into you; if I depart, I will send Mm unto you. And when be, is coine, he will reprove the world of sin, and of right eousness, and of Judgment: Of sin, because they be lieve not on me; Of right eousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment be cause the prince of this world is Judged,’’ (Jn. 16:7-11). The-gfn of unbelief is at the tap root of all other sins. Under the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, every awakened sinner is convicted of his hard heart of unbelief. When I was under conviction, I said to someone, "My unbelief is so hard I couldn’t dent it with a sledge hammer.’’ Have you eyer seen your hard heart of unbelief? You will before you airs saved. .The Holy Spirit also con victs the awakened sinner. He has no righteousness. Every unawaktaed tinner prkiea himself as having some righteousness that will get Urn into Heaven at Hot. But the work of the Holy Spirit is to strip the sinner of all his false rigU eo us ness in order that He may bestow upon him, or clothe him in the righteous ness of Christ A lost sin ner under Holy Spirit con viction is made to know as the old prophet Isaiah saw himself, “But we are an as an unclean thing, and all our rightness is as filthy rags, and we aO do fade as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away," (Isa. 64:8). Now the literal Interpretation of that expression “filthy rags” as stated in another scripture means “mon strous rags.” You come to see and know that that is how God looks upon you, and you come to wonder bow could such a wicked sinner as you ever be saved.
