Barber-Scotia College will celebrate its 117th birthday with a Founders Day Pregrain on Friday. January 20. at 7 p.m.. in the College Convocation Center. Keynote speaker for the occasion will be Dr. James H. Costen. president of the Interdenominational Theological Center. Dr. Costen was also moderator of the lMth General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church In the U.S.A. Dr. Cos ten’s community activities are equally impressive. Small Business Conference Set “How to Make it Big in « Your Small Business” is the theme of a Small Busi ness Administration (SBA) conference to be held at the Charlotte Civic Center, January 20-21. The conference, co sponsored by Central Pied mont Community College (CPCC), is designed to help veteran small business owners and veterans plan ning to start a business. Congressman Jim Mar tin will be the guest speaker at the Friday luncheon and Marshall J. ; Parker, SBA Associate Deputy Administrator, Washington, will be the guest speaker on Saturday. Seminars will deal with how to plan a business, when an attorney is , need ed, how to find start-im --hUi—-— -— capital, record keeping, managing people, tax obli gations, computers in small business, advertising and cash flow. There will be time for private discussion with the seminar presenters. More than 30 exhibitors will have displays. Registration for both days, including lunches, is $20. With Willie Dunn presid ing, alumni members re flected on 1983 events. The following positive ac tivites and goals were ac complished and planned by the St. Augustine’s Alumni Chapter: On October 15 a disco at the Excelsior Club on Beat ties Ford Road netted over 5400. Another disco will be held at the Excelsior Jan uary 21. For tickets call Willie Dunn at Ses-^SSS. On November 12 an attic sale grossed over 5100. A spring sale has been planned by Gladys Avent. On December 10 the Christmas party for alumni and guests wsa held at the Sharon Chase Condo Club house. Gifts were ex changed and there was dancing, laughter and com radeship. December 22 marked the day alumni members de livered four Christmas baskets to families in the Greenville Center area. Deliveries were made by Willie Dunn and Rich ard Highland.
