A public opinion poll con
ducted by the North Caro
lina Association of Educa
tors revealed Rufus Ed
misten presently has first
place voter preference in
the state, claiming 30 per
cent of the poll opinions.
Former Mayor Eddie Knox
followed In second place
with 17 percent.
The remaining candi
dates on the gubernatorial
poll place like this: Jimmy
Green, 15 percent; John
Ingram, 13 percent; Lauch
Faircloth, four percent;
Tom Gilmore, two percent;
Leo Jenkins, two percent
and Dr. Robert Hannon,
one percent.
..President Reagan’s
latest comments about the
Lebanon situation is that
all American Marines can
expect to return to their
ships within 30 days: Some
congreespeople, including
Sea.Gary Hart of Colorado,
don’t believe stationing
troops in Lebanese waters
is the safest measure.
Hart stated, “We’re ap
proaching the point of no
return in Lebanon—where
U S. forces are in direct
conflict with Syria. Hie
