lo West Charlotte Seniors Community Organizations Award Two Scholarships Two West Charlotte High School seniors recently received college scholar ships from community or ganizations. S’ven Levister and Linda Shropshire were presented the scholarships at the West Charlotte awards program. Levister, 18, is the son of Jacquelyn Levis ter, 2061 Greenway Ave. He received a $500 scholarship from the West Charlotte Optimist Club. Levister will attend UNC-Chapel Hill where he will major in pre-medicine. S’ven is a forma member of West Qiarlotte’s track team, as well as the Ci vitan and Latin dubs. In -— bis immunity hl» fa.,1, member of the Salvation Army basketball team at Belmont Centa, and plays basketball for his church team. He is president of his church Youth Council. Other activities include partidpation in .Junior Achievement and the Ex plorers. Levista is the first redpient of the Wallace E. Baynes Scholarship. Be cause be is the oldest of three children Levister feels it’s his responsibility Linda Shropchire .Will attend N.C. State to supplement his mother’s income. He is supervisor of a lawn and garden ser vice which he organized whfle'in'school. - According to Frank Pharr, a member of West ChaHotte Optimist Club, Levister was also accepted by North Carolina State. "He decided to attend Cha pel Hill because he could accelerate his courses in pediatrics,” Pharr point ed out. Shropshire is the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Shropshire, 2416 Newland Rd. She was awarded the Sarah S. Schofield $1,500 CPCC Plans Open House A mock trial, computer games, a Mexican band and the unveiling of a unique photo-ceramic tile mural are the highlights of Central Piedmont Com munity College’s Open House Sunday, June 10. Students and faculty plan activities for visitors across the campus at Elizabeth and Kings. Also planned for the 2-5 p.m. Open House are a backpacking campsite; , sdfrdefense and aerobics demonstrations; a perfor mance by the CPCC flute choir; raku and other crafts; an open green house; measurement of lung capacity, blood pressure readings, color _ blindness charts, EKGs, vision tests; a robotics demonstration and a crime lab display. Or listen in on a quickie course on survival Spanish. Members of student clubs and organizations will man refreshment booths. Campus maps, with a listing of the special activities and their locations, will be available at brightly colored tents. Charlotte Mayor Harvey B. Gantt has supported the ‘ 'day1* "activities- 'ana""' declaring June 10 Central Community College Day in the city. Other school organizations include the marching band, Spanish Club, Interact, cheerlead er, Ambassador’s Service, Open Advisory Council, concert band and school senate. Shropshire is a member of East Stonewall AME Zion Church. She sings with the Young Adult Choir and is a lifetinie member of Junior Y Missionaries.
