Since assuming j the pastorate of Mayfield, » Diggs has led the Church i Fellowship to increase its ' buftoet from $26,000 in 1969 toWO.OOO in 1964. Rev. Diggs was born in * Columbia, S.C. and reared in Rock Hill, S.C. He is the holder of a B.S. degree; •/Master’s of Religious Education Degree; Master of Divinity Degree; and ■ two Doctor of Divinity J Degrees. He has served as J the only Pastor of Mayfield Memorial Baptist J Church. ; As Pastor Diggs reflects upon his role here at Mayfield, he thinks that the > most frustrating moments | and months for him were * the three months following the completion of a new Sanctuary. For ten years, Mayfield had struggled and at last accomplished what some members hoped to live long enough to see, and that was the building of a new Sanctuary. Today, the total physical plant of Mayfield is com prised of an educational building with 54 rooms, 4 assembly rooms and a Fellowship hall, a scout Hut, a Sanctuary building with a seating capacity of 1,350 persons, a choir room chapel facility, and 8 auxiliary rooms. Mayfield has amassed ownership of more than 20 acres of land and five dwelling houses. Under construction is to be found a complex of homes for elderly and handicap ped citizens. The total assets of Mayfield is between seven and eight million dollars and liabilities total about two and one half million dollars. under the leadership of Rev. Diggs, Mayfield has been able to organize itself into more than 30 auxiliaries that do the work, to a large degree, that it would be almost impossible to get done on a larger ...scale. These auxiliaries cover almost every area of concern that is commonly known to the average parishioner. Athletic teams, Benevolent committees, Senior Citizen’s organization, graded choirs, and A-l Misionary Circle, Girl and Boy Scouts, and a Tutorial Program make up the auxiliaries. in uie winter ui i»oo, me Sugar Creek Road School of Religion became- one of. the latest additions to the number of things organized and operated by Mayfield. Degrees in Theology and Religion are being offered through evening classes. More than 32 persons were enrolled in the last semester just elosed. Pastor & Mrs. Diggs are both active in the Baptist State Convention and -Womens -Baptist- Home and Foreign Misionary Convention of N.C. Mrs. Diggs serves as Vice President of the Women’s convention. She is a member of the executive Board of the W B.H. & F.M. Conv., member and Board member of Women’s auxiliary of the Lott Carey Foreign Missionary Conv., member and immediate past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Mt. Peace Association, member of the Interde nominational Minister’s wive’s Alliance of Mecklen burg County, Baptist Mini ster’s Wives of the G.B.S. Conv., of N.C., Mecklen Cannon Trust Donates 5 $100,000 To Livingstone Livingstone College has received a $100,000 grant ’ from the Cannon Chari * table Trust Number One, ’ according to an announce * ment by Dr. William H. { Greene, president of the college. The gift will be used toward the purchase of the i&E. Duncan School facility from the Salisbury City School Board. Pastor and Mrs. Diggs are the parents of six children: Robbie, Harold, Jr., Charles, Wayne, Darryl, and Rocita. They are the grandparents of Tramell, Tamika, Daniel, Pia, and Brandon.
