Williams has been promoted to manager of investor communications in the treasurer’s department at Duke Power Co. A Greensboro native, Williams is a 1975 accounting graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to Duke Power in 1976 as an internal auditor, then joined Arthur Anderson & Co., where he became a senior certified public accountant. In 1979 Williams returned to Duke Power as a financial analyst and in 1961 was named supervisor of cash manage ment. Most recently, he was media specialist - rates an& finance in Duke’s corporate communications -department. --—___ W illiama serves on the Queens College Business Advisory Council and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the N.C. Associa tion of Certified Public Accoun tants. He is a member of the 15th Street Church of God, serving as a coun cilman, director of evangelism and missions, and Sunday school teach er. Williams and his wife, Teresa, have three daughters. According to Dr. Paula Newsome, Publicity chairperson, beginning at 7:30 p.m. the forum will be held in one of the church's meeting rooms. Friendship is located at 3301 Beatties Ford Rd. Appearing on the - forum will be Democrats running for Mecklenburg County Commission. They are Dr. Raleigh Bynum, Rev. Bob Walton, Randy Kincaid, Wayne Heasley, and T.L. Odom. Walton and Odom are incumbents. “Even though the forum is sponsored by the Minority Involvement Committee, we are noF only addressing minorities," Dr. Newsome commented. She explained the committee is working 'diligently, however, to make minor ities aware of the issues and to point out to candidates the concerns which could be unique to minorities. as an example, Dr. Newsome stressed the northern section of Mecklenburg County, in her opinion, has been underdeveloped and over looked. “People are surprised when they sue Uic number of reeklcnta util!_ using outdoor hath facilities,” Dr. Newsome presented. “That area is 85-90 percent black,” she added. __■ , A- - The Young Democrats and its Minority Involvement Committee believe th^ Jorum is a necessary effort “We’re hoping a very large number of people will turn out for this free event," Dr. Newsome said. The format for the forum is a timed introductory speech by each candidate, followed by an open question and answer session . The Young Democrats, who meet monthly, will have a luncheon open to the public, October 4 at noon in the North Tryon Executive Inn. The luncheon is Dutch style.
