Brenda L. Furr of Charlotte, a
senior at Campbell University, has
been appointed as a resident assist
ant in Jones Residence Hall for the
1984-85 school year. The appoint
ment has been announced by Mrs.
Sue Burgess, dean of women.
Chosen on the basis of her lead
ership ability, personality, poise,
and academic achievement, her
responsibilities will include pro
gramming, counseling and working
with other women leaders in plan
ning for campuswide activities. ■
Miss Furr, a data processing
major, served as president of her
junior class. As a member of the
Student Government Association,
she has served oh the Judlcial Court
A graduate of West Mecklenburg
High School, she is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Furr.
Mai Goode Is Sickle
Cell Banquet Speaker
Mai Goode, Advisor to National
Black Network and internationally
known News Commentator will be
the keynote speaker at the Third
Annual Sickle Ceil Awards Banquet
on Saturday evening, September 22,
at Holiday Inn-North on North Try on
Street in Charlotte.
The Banquet will highlight
“Sickle Cell Month" fund raising
activities for the local sickle cell
assocition. Donation for the banquet
is $15 per person.
The Sickle Cell Poster child for
1964-85 is “Little Miss LaToya
Pettis” of King’s Mountain, N.C. She
is the seven year old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Pettis.
Tickets for the banquet are
available at the Sickle Cell Offices.

Logan-Rich will oversee sales of

APT Times magazine. Speaking
about Logan-Rich, Ms. Peggy
Proffitt, associated publisher,

lotte has just returned from the
National Optometry Week (NOW)
Conference, held at the Hyatt Re
gency Downtown, Chicago, III.
Dr. Newsome was among more
than 800 optometrists, paraoptome
trics and guest* in attendance for
the educational sessions sad other
activities of the annual conference.
Also held in conjunction with the
NOW conference were the Second
Annual American Optometric Asso
ciation Contact Lens Symposium,
the association'* mid-year planning
meeting and a course on optome
tric gerontology, made possible
through a grant of the Adminls
tration on Aging
Dr. Newsome was in attendance
as a volunteer on one of the na
tional committees affiliated with the
