MCDONALD’S IN GREENSBORO ...Jkate’s first fast food restaurant McDonald’s Is Still “Do* g It For You” Sunday, September 30, marks the 25th Anniversary of the state’s first fast fobd restaurant - a McDonald’s in Greensboro. While the design of the typical McDonald's and the ad campaigns which are so ‘‘memorable” have changed over the years, the “fast & friendly” service, low prices and menu basics still remain true to .founder Ray—Kroc’8 original-con* cept. Twenty-five years ago the Mc Donald’s menu consisted of just nine item’s, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, shakes, fries, Coke, coffee, orange drink, cold milk, and root beer. All but the root beer remain as stan dard items today, and are joined by the ever-growing list of household names pioneered under the Golden Arches, like Big Mac, Quarter Pounder and Egg McMuffin sand wiches and Chicken McNuggets. McDonald’s is planning a major event on September 30 as a way of saying “thank you” to the millions of customers who’ve helped make the chain a success here. This event, called “Silver Sunday,” will feature regular-size hamburgers, fries and . 12 ounce Coke for 25 cents each. (The offer will be good at participating North Carolina and several South .' Carolina locations from 11 am. to 8 p.m. that day.) Its customers are not the only ones First Citizens And First State Bank Propose Merger A proposed merger of the First State Bank, based in Winterville and with offices in Greenville, into the Raleigh-headquartered First Citizens Bank has been agreed upon in principle by the directors of both banks, according to a joint announcement made by First Citizens Bank Chairman Lewis R. and First State Bank President C,D. Langston. In the proposed merger, the share holders of First State Bank may elect to receive either $130 cash or four shares of First Citizens Corp oration Series H, 9 percent Cumulative Convertible Preferred, $32.50 par stock or a combination thereof within certain limitations. The merger is subject to share holder and regulatory approval. On June 30, 1984, First Citizens Bank reported assets of $47.3 million and deposits of $41.4 million. First Citizens Bank, the subsidiary of First Citizens Corporation, serves 60 North Carolina counties with 266 offices in 126 towns. First State Bank operates three offices in Greenville and one office in Winterville. Minority Enterprise Development Week Wl Be CelelTaled The week of October 1-5 is "Minority Enterprise Develop ment Week.” According to Archie Nance, coordinator with the Char lotte-Gastonia Business Develop ment Center, activities to be held during the week are designed to call attention to existing minority-owned businesses and to praise them for progress gained in industry and in the marketplace. Functions for the week are as follows: Monday, October 1, Media coverage of local minority and women-owned businesses. Tuesday, October 2, press conference at Mc Donald's Cafeteria featuring the Mayor’s proclamation. Wednesday, October 3, an awards program also at McDonald's cafeteria. Thursday, October 4, the Carolina Minority Business Trade Fair at the Charlotte Civic Center from 8 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. Friday, October 5, an SBA workshop in the Small Business Center at Central Piedmont Com munity College from 2-5 p.m. For additional information, con tact Nance at 372-6966.
