Sigma Gamma Rho In I960 a group of 14 interested and talented women met and organised the Beta Omicroo Sigma Chapter of the Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. On Sunday, December 2, commencing at 4 p.m. in the Hall House of Charlotte, N.C., this chapter will celebrate its Sixty-Second Founder’s Day Observance. , The emphasis will be on “Sigma Excellence” as the Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter and their new local Basileus, Adelaide Hunt, looks to Its highest heritage with great pride for the standards set forth at its in ception. The sorority continues to strive toward higher education and finer womanhood. Two of the charter members are still very active in the sorority. They are Dr. Mildred Baxter Davis, a retired school teacher and Char lotte’s Water and Soil Comerva tionist, and Metzie Johnson, also a retired school teacher. Both have received 25 years of active service plaques, outstanding community awards and many other honors of recognition. A Rededication Ceremony will be conducted by the Sorority’s Re gional Director at 3 p.m. and there will be moments for meditation honoring deceased members. Awards and other entertainment will be featured during the occa sion. Free Tax Workshop A free Tax Workshop will be held on December 4 in the Citizens Center, room 220, at Central Pied mont Community College between 9 a m. and 11 a.m. Janet Wooten, an IRS representative, will discuss the business expenses deductions which have been affected by the Tax Reform Act of 19M. This Tax Workshop is being sponsored by the Small Business Center of CPCC, the Internal Re venue Service, and the Taxpayer Education Office. For more infor mation, call or write Emma R. Finley Alumni The Charlotte Alumni Chapter of Finley High School of Chester, S.C., will have its first installation of officers banquet on December 8 at the McDonald’s Cafeteria No. 2,1-85 and Beatties Ford Rd. For Men Only Today’s men struggle bravely with the loneliness of transition. The Washington, D.C., native finished his career as the fifth all-time JCSU rusher with yards behind Bill Dusenburry (2,831). Bruce Duke (2,8i2), Ernest Williams (2,758) and Thad Jones (2,510). Wesley’s 780 yards from 72 receptions gives him 3,115 career total yards, surpassing both Wil liams and Jones in total yards. The communications major and honor student is only the eighth Golden Bull to surpass 3,000 career yards and only the third runner to do so. “I’m especially pleased that the 100 Club is making sure that Darrel u getting a great big thanka for his fine effort in trie four yean at Johnson C. Smith,” remarked JCSU Athletic. Director Horace Small. “Darrel Was an exemplary, coura geous youqg man that provided many thrilling moments in his career.
