Church News Briefs Salem Baptist Church’s Musical Choir Celebrates Its 13th Anniversary By Teresa Simmons Post Managing Editor The 13th anniversary of the Salem Baptist Church Musical Choir will be held Sunday, December 2, at 6 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend. The church is located at 5318 Salem Church Rd. Terry Oates is minister of music and pianist; Mae Frances McCul lough, choir director; guest or ganist is Waymon Jordan. Rev. Anthony L. Jinwright is pastor. BELMONT PARK U.M, The drama group of Belmont Park United Methodist Church, 1303 Haw thorne Lane, will present “We Shall Behold Him." This production will be held Sunday, December 9, at the church beginning at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge. SMITHFIELD BAPTIST The Knights of the Guiding Star of the East Lodge 36 will present a Gospel program at Smithfleld Bap tist Church, 3201 May St., December 2 at 2:30 p.m. - Featured will be James A. Wil son and the Voices of Inspiration and the Smithfleld Gospel Chorus. Three door prizes will be given away. You don’t have to be presen' to win. GRACE AME ZION Homecoming recently at Grace AME Zion Church involved honor ing certain members for their con tributions and dedication to the church. Honorees included Vania Lewis, Delano Rankin Jr., Robin Lewis, Cora Gaither, John Gaither, Libby Witherspoon, Pearl Haygood, William Haygood Sr„ Nell Oxner, Jerome Oxner, James W. Crawford, William Leak, Clarence Moreland, Joseph A. Swain, Julian Payles, Marie Haygood and Ella Wilson. The entire program was dedicated to the late Charles Arthur Ander son, who was a faithful steward of Grace Church since his childhood. Anderson became a model ste ward because be believed that all he possessed belonged to God. He learned to be an example of solid piety, he knew and loved Methodist doctrine and discipline. The church could always count on him for his support. Members of Grace also for keeping financial records. He was always able to give an ac curate record of finances regardless of the time of day or night He was a faithful and loyal hus band to Gladys Anderson for 46 years. Tricia Haygood conducted an impressive memorial service for Charles Anderson. Homecoming music was rendered by the Gospel and Senior Choir of the church. A special selection by the Men’s Chorus of the church was also given. Gloria Sanders, organist and Smith Turner IV, pianist. Grace’s special guests included Dr. William F. Lawrence, Dean of Hood Theological Seminary, Salis bury, who gave an informative message; Rev. Ray Booton, former pastor .of Ben Salem Presbyterian Church; and Rev. Smith Turner II. Dinner was served to all following the service. Members of the homecoming committee included Myrtle Cathey, chairperson; Joreatha R. Isler, secretary; Joseph Swain, Gladys Moreland, Daniel Haygood, Henry Jaekaoe, Preston Haygood, Mrs_! Willie M. McKissick and Rev. Marion B. Jones. ST.
