of-state student is $2,982. annually. On-campus housing ranges

Black men and women athletes have played an integral role in
building the University's nationally prominent intercollegiate pro
gram. Both men's and women's programs are affiliated with
NCAA Division l.'The liniversity is a member oi the Sun Belt
Conference which is becoming known nationally for its athletic
prowess. There are men's teams in basketball cross country,
baseball, soccer, tennis, golf and swimming. Women’s teams
compete in volleyball, basketball, swimming, softball and tennis
There is also a coed rifle team. A comprehensive itjtramural sports
program tor men and women creates another level for student
competition.

Located in the largest urban center of the Carolinas. UNCC was
established in 1965 and is one of the 16 campuses of the Univer
sity of North Carolina System. The 1,000-acre campus has an
enrollment of more than 10,000, including about 800 black
students. Charlotte is the nation's 46th largest city and is the hub
of the Piedmont region of North Carolina, offering students many
opportunities as a learning laboratory and as a source of cultural
and social activities. Charlotte's population is 325.000 -28 per
cent of whom are black.
•Charlotte boasts many fine restaurants, clubs, movie theaters and
shopping malls. The Charlotte Coliseum and Ovens Auditorium
play host to a variety of entertainment, including popular singers,
bands, sporting events, Broadway plays and much more. Cultural
Centers also include the Charlotte Nature Museum, the Mint
■ Museum of Art, Spirit Square, Discovery Place, the Charlotte
Symphony and Opera Association Professional teams such as
the Charlotte Orioles (baseball) also provide entertainment, as
does Carowinds Theme Park.

INROADS is a unique internship program for minority (Black.
Hispanic or Native American Indian) students pursuing profes
sional careers In a field of.business or engineering (accounting,
computer science, retail management/marketing, electrical
engineering, mechanical en^neering) INROADS' interns work
with local companies during summer months, with the overall
goal of being offered a professional employment position upon
graduation from college. Students interested in applying should
have a minimum 3 0 grade point average at UNCC with a ma
jor in business or engineering Students intern with companies
such as NCNB, Ernst & Whinney Public Accounting Firm. IBM.
