Church News Briefi Gethsemane AME Zion Church To Host District Choirs On Parade” By TERESA SIMMONS POST MANAGING EDITOR On Sunday March 17 at 3 p.m. the Charlotte District Home Missions Society will sponsor a program featuring 10 choirs from the Charlotte District AME Zion Church. This program will be held at Gethseroane AME Zion Church, 531 Campus St. Theme for the event wOl be “The Charlotte District Choirs On Parade.” The public is cordially invited and admission is free. Leon Rid dick boat minister) is the site of the first Town Meeting to feature black local elected officials. ’ Ella Talley one of the organizers, stated “We will have these Town Meetings every three months in various locations.1’ The public is cordially invited to attend. Representatives from the school board, the city council and county commission will be present. “There is always talk that we don’t see our elected officials until they are running for office. This will give the citizens a chance to ask any questions and voice any concerns they have,” Mrs. Talley continued. Hill will deliver the Sunday message. Mrs. Hill, a native of Talbert County, Ga., graduated from the J. F. Boddie High School, Milledgeville, Ga. as Valedictorian. She received the B.A. degree from Morris Brown College, Atlanta, Ga., with the Cum Laude status. Mrs. Hill also holds the Master of Divinity Degree, from the Interdenomina tional Theological Center, Atlanta, Ga. The next at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church the fourth Sunday in BLACK METHODIST The Eighteenth Annual meeting of Black Methodists for Church Renewal scheduled for March 30-23 at the new Sheraton Hotel in Greensboro will draw its focus from United Methodism’s missional priority. Using the theme “Strengthening the Black Church for Witness and Mission” there will be four workshops and three worship ser vices. It is also called Laetare Sunday, from the Latin “rejoice” and is celebrated by a service of re joicing and anticipation rather than penance.
