By James Cuthberi Independence’s Teddy Pauling, North Carolina’s top 300 meter intermediate hurdler, remained unbeaten during the 30th annual Myers Park Relays as he tied the meet record of 37.6 seconds. Myers Park’s Alvin Blakeney leaped 24 feet and eight inches in thd long jump. Blakeney is ranked third nationally. Steve Lathrap, Kelly Dixon, Joey Simpson, and Pauling captured the 1,600 meter relay in 3:17.6 seconds. North Mecklenburg’s Neese Gray won the Ralph Sandiford Award for outstanding female performance capturing the long jump at 17.5 and the 100 meters in 12.3 seconds. > Other outstanding performances in the Queen City were John White of West Charlotte who jumped the high jump at 6-6; Bill Beamer of Independence, 400 relay at 41.8; James Jett, Joey Simpson, Beamer, and Pauling, Independence, 800 relay in 1:27.8; James Coleman of Independence, 3,200 meter run, 9:52.5; Cheryl Weaver, Independence, triple jumped in 37 feet llVfe inches; Sylvia Barber, Myers Park, discus in 105-10. She has not made a C in her high school career. The daughter of Cleveland and Virginia Harris of 9101 Shadowwood Road, plays basketball and volley ball for Olympic. The junior marshal and Order of the Trojan member participated in Project Excel and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was MVP in baseball her sophomore year, junior year and senior year. She was All-Conference and a member of the Junior Olym pics All-State team. For the Trojans, she averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds per game from the point guard position and was first team All-County on everyone’s ballot.
