Church News Briefs iXettie Caldwell is St. John Baptist Church’s Woman’s Day Speaker < i eresa Nmnoni and LaShun Lawson Past Staff Writers Woman’* Day at New St. John Baptist Church will be observed Sunday, May 5, during two special services. The 11 a.m. service will feature as speaker Nettie Caldwell The afternoon speaker will be Carolyn Gardner. Both ladies are members of the church who exhibit the Christian mores evident in those who love Christ. Both Mrs. Caldwell and Mrs. Gardner will speak on the theme “Women Growing In the Knowledge of Christ.” Mrs. Caldwell, originally frrtfn Hamlet, attended Livingstone College and the University of Rochester, N.Y. She has taught in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and at Central Piedmont Community College. Presently she is co-owner with her husband of the Print Shack Printing Co. At New St. John Baptist she is the Christian Education Director. She is also Drama Director for the General Baptist Association. Mrs. Caldwell says that the reason she tithes ho- time to the Lord is because of love. “I love the Lord. He is first in my life. I know that God has laid His hands on tne for a special calling and I give Him the praise, I want to contribute my God-given talents to humanity.” The choir from Mrs. Caldwell’s home family church will be present to render music Sunday morning at NeW* St. John. The Ellerbe Grove Baptist Church Youth Choir from Rockingham will be on program. The daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Arise L. Covington, Mrs. Caldwell is married to Harry J. Caldwell. They have three children, Tina, Cornell and Shelia «-aroiyn Gardner will be the speaker during the afternoon program. She is a graduate of Winston-Salem State Teacher's College and earned her Master’s degree from Ohio State University. She is currently a teacher at Northeast. A capable person who believes in excellence Mrs. Gardner is a Sunday School teacher at New St. John and works with the Young Adult Missionary Group. She is also a member of the Paradise Voices. She is a quiet but serious person and believes that whatever one seeks to accomplish should be done right or not at all. A special invitation is extended to all to support the Women's Day Program at New St. John Baptist Church. Rev.
