Tuck By Jalyne Strong i Peat Staff Writer Though the Booster Club of Olym pic High School promotes its school's Marching Band, they also found another cause to champion when they honored Mrs. E. H. Tuck, claiming, “That woman is a suc cess." At Olympic High's Marching Band and Booster's annual Bar-Be Que, Mrs. Tuck was presented with a plaque which further reads, “That woman who loves life and lives life to the fullest; who has discovered and shared the strengths and talents that are uniquely her own; who puts her best into each task and leaves each situation better than she found it; who seeks and finds that which is beautiful in all people and in all things; whose heart is full of love and warm with compassion; who has found joy in living and peace within herself.” Such high praise was lavished on Mrs. Tuck as a show of apprecia tion for her dedicated and Unselfish assistance to Olympic’s Booster , Club and Marching Band for the last several years. She journeys to the band's competitions out of town and acts as chaperone on the bus. She also helps sell tickets for the school's games and has been ac tively involved in many of the Booster Club's events such as their annual fruit sale through which for the last two years she has netted over $600 for the club. Mrs. Tuck first became involved with Olympic's Booster Club when her daughter was attending the school. “1 felt since my daughter loved the band so much I should help out," she informs. However, her daughter has since graduated from the school but Mrs. Tuck decided to stay. "I just love the band," she Queen City Optimist Club To Conduct Kke Safety Program At Eastland Mall x ne Queen City Optimist Club will conduct its annual Bike Safety Pro gram on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Eastland Mall parking lot. Jack Walker, co-chairman for the bicycle safety program, announced this week the Optimists will pro vide free bicycle registration, safety inspection, and rodeo com petition. “We want to teactydiildren to ride for run, not fatalities. Bicycling can be enjoyable for children, safe transportation for young people, and good exercise for the whole family,” Walker said. The Queen City Op timist Gub also conducts an annual bike give-away for needy children at l~—-— Christmas. “We help children to be creative yet careful, skillful yet safe," added Walker who emphasized the need to lower biking injuries in Mecklen burg County. According to figures from the Charlotte Police Depart ment. bicycle accidents are on the increase. Over 170 bike-related accidents occurred in Charlotte last year, uf> from 137 accidents in 1983 Bike rider’s tests will be admin istered and licenses will be issued. Minor repairs will be made on all bicycles during the safety inspec tion. Bicycle registration will be available to all children accom panied by a parent with a driver's license.
