Trosh, both of Charlotte, are among 21 appointments to a new Urban -Transportation Task. Force an- _ nounced by Secretary James E. Harrington of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT). The task force will study a wide range of issues relating to the status and future of urban transportation in North Carolina. “We must face this issue im mediately because of the dramatic growth of our urban areas,” Har rington said. “Gdvernor Martin asked me to form this group to investigate possible solutions and develop a recommended program of action which can be applied to all our cities and towns." The Department of Transporta tion has assessed all existing tho roughfare plans for urban areas * ' with a population of 10,000 or more, k'*'ilhis assessment Indicates that <;•' North Carolina has an urban transportation funding backlog of 40 to 60 years. The Urban Transportation Task Force has broad representation from cities and counties, from the General Assembly and from indi viduals in the private sector with development and transportation backgrounds.
