Boy Scouts Council Appeals To Mack Groups To Support Fall Roundup By Loretta Man ago Post Managing Editor The Mecklenburg County Council of Boy Scouts of America is an appeal to the elementary schools, their respective PTAa, the Park k Recreation Department, neighbor hood organizations, black com munity organizations and the presi dent of the Charlotte Area Clergy Association, along with the Metropo litan Ministerial Association, in an all-out effort to make this year’s “Roundup Join Scouting Night” one of the organization’s most successful events yet. Fall Roundup, a yearly event of the Mecklenburg County Council, normally occurs over a period of six weeks. This year’s roundup will be different. On Thursday, September 2#, at 66 of the dty and county’s elementary schools, each pack and troop will be on hand to recruit new Scouts and leaders. The Council hopes to recruit 3,000 new Scouts, who will Join the 375 packs, troops and poets in Mecklenburg County that are sponsored by over 300 churches and civic organizations. In the 75 years that the Boy Scouts have been operating their “mission - has been to provide, through chart ered organizations a program for boys, young men and women de signed to encourage them to be faithful In their religious duties, build desirable qualities of charac tiiNUU firanoB Fanm The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Urban Institute, in conjunction with the Metrolina En trepreneurial Council, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and a varie ty of major business service pro viders through Metrolina, is spon soring a program in the Cone Center on Thursday, September 19, entitled, “Metrolina High Growth Business Forum." The forum features five local, promiment entrepreneurs including Jim Busby of Data South, Jack Fulk of Bo Jangles, Carol Hardin of CommLink Inc., Jack Weil of SAI and Alvin Levine of Pic ’n Pay Shoes, who will discuss what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how one can attract funding for new ven tures. The program is the first effort of a recently formed organization called the Metrolina Entrepreneur . ial Council which Is comprised of area business service providers and entrepreneurs who possess high growth aspirations for their poten tial or developing businesses. These are the Tiger Cubs, an adult-boy partnership for seven year-olds; Cub Scouts, for boys through the ages eight and 10: Boy Scouts, for boys from age 11-18; Vanity Scouts, a simpler uniform combines with a sports emphasis for boys ages 14-18; and Exploring, a coed unit that teaches 18-21 year olds about career and hobby interests. Regardless of income, disabilities, race or any other factors, all eligible young people are encou raged to become a part of the Scouting program.
