Calvary Baptist Church wilt honor their pas tor and first lady, Rev. and Mrs. James Hawthorne, this Sunday, during the church’s U o’clock morning and also at 3 p.m. services. The Rev. Gregory Davis will de liver the message during the morn ing worship service. Rev. Preston Pendergrass, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church, will be guest speaker at 3 p.m., and will be accompanied by his congregation. Rev. and Mrs Hawthorne and their children have been the first family of First Mt. Calvary for the past 20 months. Called to the min istry in 1978, Rev. Hawthorne has previously been the associate pastor ;« St. Luke Baptist for approxi mately two years. In I960, he assumed the pastor *te of Pleasant Plains Baptist Church in Uncaster, S.C., where he served for more than three years. Since arriving at First Mt. Cal vary, Rev. Hawthorne has been a dynamic pastor. Under his leader ship, the church has added more than 100 new members. The church has additionally grown spiritually and financially. Rev. Hawthorne is iyjnown for treating each member of -his congregation with equal respect. | He and his wife are educators ip the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.
