Zion Church, 6116 Montieth Or., on
Sunday, November IT, at 5 p.m This
special program is sponsored by the

The Prayer Meeting Choir of
Livingstone College is made up of
young students, men and women,
who desire to be Christians and who
love to sing for the glory of God.
First organised as the Maize
Singers, Rev. George Maize, now the
pastor of St. Paul AME Zion
Church, Toledo, Ohio, Initiated the
group. At that time, the group
consisted of six persons. In 1900,
when Rev. Maize graduated from
Livingstone, the Maize Singers
“t — '■■ ■■ 1 -- -» ’
asked Rev. Aldrich to be their ad
visor and the group was renamed
the Prayer Meeting Choir since their
main purpose was to provide music
and spiritual upliftment for the
prayer meetings which were held
Wednesday evenings on campus.
Nothing takes priority over the
prayer meetings which are still held
on Wednesday evenings while the
choir still sings for them.
On April 28, 1985 the Prayer
Meeting Choir celebrated 25 years
on the Livingstone College Campus.
Over 85 members returned for the
reunion.
The Choir has appeared on
WSOC-TV and the Highpoint Sta
tion. It has traveled throughout the
South, Northwest, Mid-West and the
Atlantic Seaboard providing music
for college assemblies, vespers,
convocations, founders' days and
commencements. The Choir has also
appeared on program for the I960
General Conference which was held
in Greensboro.
