Roddenberry Will Come To UNCC, November 21 Gene Rodden berry, cre ator and producer of the original “Star Trek” tele vision series, will come to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Thursday, November 21. Scheduled at 8 p.m. in McKnight Hall, Rodden berry will show a 18-minute blooper reel and a 70 minute movie pUot-“Tbe Cage.” He will also give a lecture on “The Shape of Tomorrow,” Tickets for the show are f® for the public and $8 for UNCC students, faculty and staff. A reception to -1 honor Rodden berry is scheduled from 6:30-7:30 p m. in Rooms 3 and 4 of Cone Center for all ticket holders. Following a three-season run on NBC beginning in 1966, “Star Trek” went into worldwide release in 47 other countries and into syndication in more than 160 markets in the U.S. Its following expanded into the millions known as “Trek kies,” and has spawned hundreds of fan clubs and conventions. He flew 89 bomber missions and sorties in the South Pacific. He also be gan to write while in the South Pacific. Following the war, he became an air line pilot and later a police officer, while continuing to write. For two years he served as head writer for “Have Gun, Will Travel,” and later created the television series “The Lieutenant.” "Star Trek" followed. Since that series ended, he has produced “Pretty Maids All in a Row,” a motion picture starring Rock Hudson, Angie Dickinson and Telly Savales, as well as a num ber of pilots for TV. Since the start of the “Star Trek" phenome non, he has been in steady demand as a lecturer and is working on a second novel. along with several TV pro jects.
